# Do you dislike wine?

True, but if the vodka is distilled using modern methods so it contains nothing but ethanol and water (say at 40% strength), it should have a clean pure alcohol taste (they even call it “neutral spirits”), and by definition anything else, which has a distinctive flavor or character, is less pure. This all hinges on what your baseline for what a “clean” taste is. Sherry like Manzanilla can be fine and dry and delicious, but in a pedantic sense is not “neutral” in the same sense as neat vodka.

Thanks to an unfortunate incident when I was 11 or 12 where I mistook a juicebox my brother left out for a few days to grow moldy for the juicebox I was drinking from, I _do_ have a basis of comparison. And grape wines definitely taste like mold to me.

I’ll drink it if offered, but I’m not likely to buy a bottle on my own unless I need it for cooking.
I don’t think it tastes bad per se, it’s just not my preference.
And cilantro does indeed taste like soap.

I can understand how you wouldn’t like mold-flavored things if you had that experience, and I can see how some wine tastes yeasty (although not nearly as much as some cheeses), but I wonder if you like beer? It tastes even more moldy to me, although the bitterness is a more important factor in why I rarely drink beer: I’ll occasionally have a Guinness but its yeastiness is why I won’t have more than 1. IPA’s are right out.

I’ve tried several different wines and I’ve found nothing that makes me want to buy a second bottle. But I love me some fuzzy navel wine coolers.

I like wine. Nearly all varietals. An ex of mine was a winemaker for a while, and I helped out with the crush and the bottling several years. It’s fun and educational. And yummy!
You don’t need to have an outrageously expensive bottle to have a good wine, but Christmas before last, my BiL (who can no longer drink) offered me a bottle that was a gift from his boss. It was delicious! After I finished it off, he brought out a second bottle he’d bought himself. The gift bottle was about a $30 wine, the other about half that. What a difference! The second wasn’t bad, but the first was so tasty, the second suffered by comparison.
Also, I love cilantro. Someone in the zombie portion of this thread mentioned that cilantro was the same as coriander. Maybe it’s from growing up in California, but to me the leafy portion of the plant is _always_ called cilantro. Only the dried berries or the spice made from the ground dried berries are called coriander.

I believe that’s a US vs UK dialect distinction. Americans refer to the leaves and stems as “cilantro” and only the seeds as “coriander,” while Brits call the whole plant “coriander.” So that person who said they were the same might have meant that a Brit and an American could be talking about the same thing using different words, which is true.

I don’t like beer. It doesn’t taste moldy to me, though, just very bitter.

I grew up drinking good wine, it tastes like wine is supposed to, but I don’t really enjoy the effect of alcohol so I don’t drink very much.
I like beer if it’s dark. I had a locally brewed black and tan last night at the bar in our village (the kind of bar where everyone knows everyone and has for decades) – really tasty but then I was tipsy which always feels like being numb blurry underwater to me, which may be how it is for everyone and I’m the only one who doesn’t like it. Dope is even worse, can’t bear it.
Cilantro tastes like cilantro to me. Pleasant.

I loathe bitter flavors, so coffee and beer are right out. I don’t like red wines, and whites must be very sweet for me to drink it. My favorite is one from Wines of the San Juan (I seem to remember it’s a White Zin) called Sweet Cherry Pie. That’s about what it tastes like. I really like a sweet hard apple cider, like Strongbow Honey or Cinnful Apple from Angry Orchard. I just don’t know how to get such things in Fort Wayne since they are not available in stores.

I’ve never heard the phrases [butt-chugging and boofing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_enema),\* and I don’t really feel all the wiser, now, for it. I suppose I could find some future applications for referring to one in, say, a city council meeting, yoga/tai chi class, or car show. You’ll never see me hanging out at frat houses/dorms any more, so I’m sure I could butt-chug my way in just about absolutely zero situations imaginable and _shame on anyone here who can **and does**!!!_

I like wine. Red wine.
I like _cheap_ red wine.
Red ink. Plonk. _Le vin du pais_, table wine for the milk-crate furniture suite.
Specifically, gallon-jug, screw-cap “Beatnik Red”, the tipple of poets, students, and lumpen intellectuals. It’s got a nice, earthy, slightly raspy taste and pleasing cultural/historic resonances.
Plus it mellows people out nicely, and goes well with a couple of joints.
The finer, pricier, more _reputable_ wines certainly have their place, especially to accompany a splendid meal or celebrate a grand event. But for a relaxed or boisterous evening with friends, gimme that big green jug every time.

I know exactly what kind of wine you mean. The South African equivalent would be [Tassenberg](https://www.makro.co.za/sys-master/images/hf4/hba/8894336204830/silo-MIN_57832_EAA_large). Tassies. “Oom Tass” (Uncle Tass). Quintessential student plonk.

I like wine, especially a good hearty red. Doesn’t have to be fancy, the stuff in the big box is fine.
I like beer too. Again nothing fancy. Yuengling is really good.
