Do you eat the crusts of a loaf of bread ?

Another vote for this.

My dog has decided in the past couple years that she is addicted to bread and will come running any time I open a bread package, and then beg for bread.

So she gets a piece of the heel every time I open the package until the heel is gone. I will usually eat the heel at the other end, no big deal.

A loaf of sliced bread always goes stale or moldy well before I’ve used it down to the end pieces, so it’s a non-issue.

I eat the crust on a slice of bread, but rarely eat the heels of the loaf.

Is there an option for that?

My SO loves the crusts, and I love the center, so we are well matched. I also like dark meat and he loves white meat, so I think in food we do excellent.

I’ll never eat them fresh, but I put them in the freezer and use them whenever I need bread crumbs. So I guess I do eat them, just not as a slice of bread.

Yes, but there is no option for those who slice off the crust around the slice of bread.

Its been years since I’ve been to a gathering where sandwiches, usually quartered, and crusts sliced off where available on the food table.

I no longer eat bread due to dietary restrictions but when I did eat bread I considered the crusts to be the best part of the loaf, especially of home-baked bread. Yummy. . . . .

I usually eat whole wheat bread and avoid the heels unless it’s the last 2 pieces of bread in the house. For sandwiches, I put the crust side in and the regular side out. If the heel is thick, I will sometimes slice off a sliver of the crusty side to get rid of it. My husband eats the heels with no problem.

If the heels are Italian or Rye bread, I freeze them for bread crumbs.

The heel of a fresh-baked loaf of bread is delicious so I eat it right away. For supermarket bread, it gets eaten later, if at all.

On supermarket presliced “regular” bread, the crust is only used to keep the “real slices” from getting stale. They may be used if there is no other bread available.

For good crusty bread, I’ve killed several villages to get my grubby hands on them.

We save the heels of sliced bread for bread pudding. We save them in their plastic bags in the top part of the refrigerator. Once there isn’t any room for any more, it’s time to make pudding!

Crusts are fine to eat. Too much trouble to remove in sliced bread and the best part of bakery bought loaves.

We call them heels in our house, too.

For sandwiches I pass them by. They’re fine for with soup or just a snack. I don’t seek them out in a grocery store type loaf. Of a crusty bakery Italian or French loaf I used to grab those first, but my son prefers them so I yield to him.

Toasted with lots of butter and cinnamon sugar.

I’ll skip the heal and never eat it.

That’s generally true, apart from specialty breads and the occasional emergency. My wife eats them.
