I just googled my ex-wife. Found a number of pictures of her as part of her SCA group. It’s been more than a decade but she looks about the same - maybe a bit heavier but otherwise about the same. Didn’t stir any old feelings - guess I’m pretty much indifferent now. Heck - as far as I know - one of you dopers might _be_ her. That’d be strange… (heck - if you are reading this… Get a new tunic, Sweetie, every photo has you in the same one…) ---

Holy crap. It never occured to me to do so but I just found him. He has his own domain name, at [firstname/lastname].com. I found a pic, and it’s definitely him. I haven’t seen nor talked to him for…nine years or so. Whoa. Just whoa. ---

Of course - it’s a “must” ! And I Google me, because I’d like to know what they are seeing (because I know they are doing it). I have two legit pretty cool appearances on a classic car site and ABC News. Other than that, I would like to thank the follwing people for screwing with all my Ex-es: I’d like to thank the guy who has my exact name and plays the drums, they guy with my exact name who plays football, and the guy wiht my exact name who won 12 million in a state lottery! And you, you Chief of Surgery, Phil XXXXXX, I salute you. This Buds for you, Phil XXXXX’s everywhere! You did my name proud! When I search, I realize my Ex-es have done nothing. Zip. LEW-ZERS! During my last jobhunt, I wrote to a place which asked to list any publications. I have an article whose whole name I just can’t remember by heart, so I googled up my Graduate Advisor, figuring he’d have it in his list of publications. It’s still his biggest article. And he’s working at the University of Little Potatoville (not to be mistaken with the University of Greater Potatoville, which actually has bathrooms). YES! Who, me? Problems with the Grad Advisor? Naaaaah… I just dropped out of a PhD when he decided to steal my work, why would I have a problem? Really! ---

Yes! I googled my high school sweetheart, whom I lost touch with after he went into the Air Force and I went to college after we graduated high school back in 1993. I googled him periodically throughout the years and finally, about a year and a half ago, found his name on a friend’s myspace page. I e-mailed the friend, he sent me my ex’s e-mail address, I e-mailed him, and after about a month of talking, we fell in love again. We did the long-distance thing (CA to VA) for six months, then I moved to CA to be with him (he couldn’t move because he is still in the military). It’s been a year and three months since I found him again, and it’s been the best thing that has ever happened to me! ---

I’m so glad to hear that I’m not the only one that does this. I try not to do it often, because I consciously suppress any stalkerish tendencies that I see in myself, but occasionally I start wondering and just have to look. Usually don’t find much though. Definitely much more restrained about googling exes than I am about googling current crushes, too. ---

Never. It seems stalkerish and vaguely creepy. Besides, I believe in a scorched earth policy when it comes to unsuccessful past relationships. Don’t wish them ill but also don’t care to fondle the ashes. ---

Unfortunately I still do. He has a blog and a facebook, and I check up on him once or twice a semester, whenever I think of it. I always feel bad when I do though, cause I have moved on and love my life now, and don’t want to dwell on the past. ---

I googled an ex who I hadn’t spoke with in about seven years and discovered she lives two towns over from me. We’re friends again and we hung out on Friday night, in fact. ---

Some foreign tenants moved into my house, and I googled them, to make sure they are’nt ex-KGB or something. Turns out one of them was a winter olympian.
