We have 4 bags of ice in the chest freezer, as well as lots of frozen meat. We ahve a backup propane bottle for the grill. We have a converter thingie to power my CPAP (or other small appliance - like a fan) from a car battery. We try to have at least 1/2 tank gas at all times during hurricane season. We have several gallons of water, and empty large containers to fill for emergencies. We have lots of “hurricane food” (canned goods) that we have accumulated, as well as plenty of dog food for our three dogs. We have plywood to cover the windows. Batteries, flashlights, candles, lighters. I think we’ve thought of everything to “hunker down” and ride out a storm and subsequent power outages and flooding.
tsunami (asteroid or global warming induced), Cloverfield monster incursion, alien death ray strike, C.H.U.D. invasion, Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man sighting, plague induced zombie-vampire infestation.
Mostly I just plan to take the PATH back to Jersey and let Bloomberg deal with it.
Which is EXACTLY what [del]Fabulous Creature[/del] the nameless super-villain responsible for the inevitable Kaiju assault on New York wants you to do.
1-hurricanes
2-flooding/tornadoes/fires–possible loss of power in 100+ temps

this is a great topic–i’ve already picked up some good ideas!
i forgot to add the most important things!! lots of vodka and cigarettes!! :smack:
A Blizzard or Nor’Easter, perhaps an ice storm (Coastal Southeastern Maine)
Hurricaine, tornados, Zombie Uprising
Home; We have our own artesian well, lots of water storage ability, and a pantry stocked with emergency provisions, I will be starting a veggie garden next spring , we have a family of almost-tame deer and some other wild animals on our property if we need a source of meat, we have a 1 acre pond stocked with Largemouth Bass, an apple orchard, blueberry bushes, the house is stocked with flashlights in strategic locations, as well as oil lamps, and flourescent lanterns, the house itself is a 200+ year old Colonial with three fireplaces and a woodstove, we have wood stocked in the cellar (we lose power on a regular basis even without disasters, so lighting and heating are important)
I have a stocked “Bug Out Bag” by the door ready if I need it (freeze-dried food, water purification stuff, a couple knives and flashlights, firestarting supplies, a tarp, etc…), the house has light-blocking curtains that can be drawn if we need privacy (or to prevent shambling Zombies from seeing inside the house and seeing our tasty Braaaiiinnns!), I have a few firearms and a small stock of ammunition for hunting and/or home defense if neccesary
Car; I have spare cold-weather gear in the trunk, a full-size trolley jack for tire changes, an Inova 24/7 LED signal light for breakdowns, jumper cables, a smaller car Bug-out-bag (the car is actually a bug-out device in and of itself) a magnesium firestarter and swedish firesteel
I’ve been through one hurricane and one tornado. Hurricanes are much more fun. You know those are coming ahead of time, so you can get all hunkered down and have a party.
My back is not as strong as I would like, but I have some very nice liquors, and some nicely honed tools. Come the apocalypse, I’ll be there with my whet stones and whiskeys.
(Tomorrow I go north for my vacation. I plan to dig out the drainage ditches, cut brush, and chop down trees for a week and a half. I can’t imagine anything more relaxing.)
