No TV. Superior feeling? No, I’m ashamed. I have the same TV addiction mentioned previously. I’ll walk down the street, casually glance in an electronics store window, and … several hours later attempt to get my shoes unstuck from the gum on the sidewalk when the TV goes off.
At the shopping mall, Media World is the equivalent to “Best Buy” in the states. I’m sure my mouth hangs agape with drool in the big screen section as the program segments continue to scroll by my unblinking eyes. I’m weak, not superior.
I was raised by Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo, Mike and Carol Brady, Andy Griffith, Fred Sanford, Maxwell Smart, The Chief, 99 (rrowr!), and Higgins. I turned out ok!
No seriously, I had a great family, I just watched a lot of TV as a kid.
I have a TV in my bedroom that has a VHS and DVD player built in. It sits in an entertainment center. It is not digital ready but will be after I get my converter box coupon.
I also have a plasma flatscreen TV*, digital ready, out in the living room, on the wall.
I am in So. Cal.
**possibly dumb question: why do the digital channels kinda stretch out the picture? Sometimes it cuts off part of credits on the right or left side, and also makes people look a bit wider and chunkier than they really are.
Sounds like the settings on your screen are “off” somewhat. Do you have it set to “normal”, “stretch” or “zoom1” or “zoom2”? There are several variations of settings on plasma televisions to make up for various settings on different channels. You have to change the settings each time you go to a different channel and see a different format. Ideally, you should never have a black border visible around the picture as that has been known to cause screen burn-in.
Sorry for the above hijack of sorts - just trying to be of help.
My sister is like that. And she can’t hear us when the TV is on.
I have a TV. I don’t have cable. I have an antenna that I bought so I could watch Jeopardy (that’s about the only channel it’ll get). I mostly watch videos, although not so much lately because of school. If I want to watch TV I go over to my parents.
It’s not necessarily a digital channel thing. Your TV is a 16:9 aspect ratio, about twice as wide as it is tall. Some shows/channels broadcast in the traditional analog 4:3 aspect ratio, closer to a square shape. The TV stretches those 4:3 shows out to 16:9 ratio, making everything wider. There should be a button on your TV remote that says something like Picture Size or Zoom mode, play with that button. I wish the TVs did a better job of compensating.
Some shows are still broadcast in 4:3 ratio, but with black bars on the sides to still make the broadcast widescreen.
