I recently started a personal blog about my close-up and macro photography. I have to admit that it has been a lot of work, but it also has been a lot of fun! But once I started talking to my friends about it I realized that none of them have ever blogged. In retrospect that seems odd considering how long blogging has been around. So that got me wondering…am I just hanging around with an atypical crowd, or is blogging not as common as I thought? And that got me thinking about the Straight Dope… How many of you out there have a blog? Do you have any good or bad experiences to share? Cheers! PS – I was tempted to add a link to my blog (I’d love feedback) but wasn’t sure if that was permissible and good etiquette. If a moderator could let me know I’d appreciate it. ---

Yes and I post every day - but only during baseball season, as it’s a blog that covers each game my team plays. So it’s really just 162 posts a year. Also it’s not really a personal blog, like a Livejournal blog. I try to keep my identity secret, but I do post about stuff I’ve done around town if I do anything on a game day. “Clevelandy” stuff. I’ll also post personal baseball-related experiences. ---

I created one as a joke. An acquaintance of mine (Mr. X, let’s call him) seems to enjoy talking about taking a dump, so I teased him by making a blog called “Mr. X’s Poo” (“Had Indian food on Friday, Type 5 on Bristol Stool Scale, I give it three out of four stars”). ---

I have a LiveJournal that I use as my own personal Pit, does that count? And of course no one has done any blogging, everyone just vomits forth all the ideas that pop in their head onto Facebook. ---

I think Facebook took a lot of the blog fight out of people who would just be using the blog as a personal online journal. omg someone BEE-t me to it 😛 ---

I have a blog, but it’s locked down and private. You must be invited and given the password in order to read it. That’s because I’m not crying for attention with my blog writings; I just needed a place to store stuff that I’ve written that really isn’t any good for publishing anywhere and really isn’t fit for human consumption. I work a lot of stuff out on that blog and nobody ever has to know about some of the things going on in my head. I also started a fundraising blog for my sister, who has lost a bunch of weight and needs excess skin removal surgery. I’m pretty sure I’m not allowed to post that link here. ---

Mine is less of a journal and more of an examination and explanation of my photography. But I found I got more and better feedback from having a separate Facebook page, so now I only post something when I feel especially verbose. ---

I have a character blog and it’s where I get my nom de plume for this board. I don’t post to it very much anymore, but I have some stories in there that I think are pretty good. I envisioned it as a stepping stone to get myself writing but real life, family, and gradutate school got in the way and I let it peter out. ---

I’ve got one and post erratically, usually when I’ve written something in email or as a diary/OP at another message board that I want to preserve; I also use it for photo story-telling and general musing on whatever happens to be occupying my thoughts at the moment. Link’s in the contact info in my profile here. I do have a Facebook account but it’s almost entirely dormant; I got it just so I could gain access to a few friends’ pages. ---
