# Do you know what "whoopie pies" are?

I guarantee anyone from Maine, does.
I don’t know if New Hampshireans or Massholes do.
This website is from a maker of whoopie pies that were on “Oprah’s Favorite Things” once.

Personally, those aren’t my favorite. The filling is kind of “whipped” and in my Mom’s whoopie pies, the filling was more like frosting. They’re good, though.

I know what Whoopie Pies are and I’m from Virginia.
We got Pumpkin Whoopie Pies from an Amish bakery in Pennsylvania last year… Oh. My. God.
The filling was made with pure butter and sugar, more like a frosting than fluffy filing. It was impossible to eat without a huge glass of cold milk. Man I wish I had one now.

I’m **in** NH, though not **from** here. I’ve never heard of them. They look too sweet for me, though.
[aside]
I have to admit, I was afraid they were something like “cream pies”.
(I was going to say “Not the one’s you eat.”, but I suppose that all depends on your … tastes, so to speak.)

I was practically raised on whoopies pies…both chocolate and pumpkin. My mom makes the best IMHO.

No. I’ve only had one Moon Pie in my life…and that was plenty.
Think buttercream frosting sandwiched between two, thick, moist, cake-like cookies.
I can’t vouch for the recipe [here](http://www.ljcfyi.com/ljcsProjects/cooking/whoopiePies.html), but these closely resemble the ones I make.

Current New Hampshirean claiming political refugee status (looking for a new RED state, btw) from the Peoples Republic of Masshole.
I know what they are. I know how to make them. The filling differences are nothing more than preference based. I see both kinds on the shelves around here (Southern NH). My MIL makes a whipped filling, my mother makes a frosting filling (though the MIL is a better cook in all things except turkey stuffing)

Whoopie Pies are food from the gods! Mmmmmm. I should make some soon.
I grew up in Massachusetts but my mom is from Northern Maine so I guess that’s where she got it.
Whipped filling is blasphemy. The filling is made with crisco, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Oh man. So good.
I haven’t had pumpkin ones yet but I’ve heard of them. Only chocolate. They are best eaten with a glass of milk.

For real? I don’t think I’ve been to a grocery store yet in this state that doesn’t sell them, so they seem kind of hard to miss. You may be right about the too sweet part, if you believe that it’s possible for baked goods to be too sweet…

A local sandwich shop here in central Maine sells a variation with peanut butter cream in the middle. Yummy for a change, but the original version is my favorite. I’ve made them many times (whipped filling) and they are fun to do with kids.

I haven’t had one since returning to the South though - and I don’t know if they’re available here in Ohio.

They’re ‘gobs’ in parts of western PA. I’m from whoopie pie territory, though. I used to be able to eat the large ones but anymore can only stomach the mini ones from a York, PA area bakery.

Never had it. Does it have chocolate chunks and bits of frosting or something?
I’ve had the whoopie pies that have peanut butter frosting. . .a good change of pace.
I thought all the ones my parents brought down for Xmas were gone, but I just realized yesterday that there are 2 in the freezer.
I also met someone from South Jersey this weekend who knows what they are, but when probed, she revealed that she got them from a “Pennsylvania Dutch” market.

A whoopie piece is almost like 2 muffin-tops with frosting in between.
