Jay-Z. They were seen together at a lot of political events for Obama, as well as the inauguration. Plus that whole trip to Cuba that made the news recently. ---

Sorry if I wasn’t clear: I KNOW who Jay-Z is. I’ve heard of him and known about him for a very long time. I just didn’t know he was married to Beyonce. I know who they both are separately, though. Didn’t know they were a couple. ---

To your secondary questions, yes it’s pretty common knowledge so long as know who Beyonce and Jay Z are. That said, I’m not utterly astonished to hear somebody might know who they are but didn’t know they were married. ---

I only knew because the top news story today on Time’s feed is the speculation that she and her husband are expecting again. I was surprised that bit of information stuck to my brain for the past ten minutes. ---

Yes, I know, and yes, I think it’s common knowledge if you watch TV or read the newspapers much. The Today Show seems to fawn over them and other celebrities (I guess Today has gotten out of the news business) and even my local small town paper has mentioned them. I think they both sing. ---

Incidentally, I also know that Chris Brown and Rihanna are married and that there are some domestic violence allegations, but strangely, I do not know who those two people are. ---

I knew it who it was since they got married and I hate him for it. The guy is successful creatively and financially, not only in music, but in other businesses as well. Then he goes ahead and marries fucking Beyonce. No one deserves that much success. If you do well artistically, I expect financial problems or at least a few problems with your personal life. ---

Jay-Z was my thought, but I have zero idea who he is other than a music person. A rapper, maybe? I still think it is odd she dropped “Knowles” from her name and goes by one name. ---

If you know who Jay-Z is you know he’s married to Beyonce. It doesn’t work in the other direction. (As to Chris Brown and Rihanna - if Jay-Z beat the crap out of Beyonce, they’d probably get a lot more media play than they do, since there’d be news about them when they’re not putting out new albums, or playing high profile shows (or no-showing).) ---

I know of the existence of an artist named Jay-Z, and of the existence of an artist named Beyonce, but I see no reason why I would be expected to know that they are married to each other. ---

Yeah, I know who her husband is. I don’t _try_ to follow celebrities, but I pass by gossip magazines in checkout lines and spend enough time online that it’s hard to avoid picking up information. I do think it’s a little odd to not know, but only because they’re both incredibly famous and so are one of the celebrity couples mentioned all over the place. How on earth do you avoid it? ---

Yes, but I often forget his name. I know Jay-Z is famous, but he doesn’t put out music I like to listen to. (Until recently, I wasn’t into rap at all.) Beyonce did at one point, and I got familiar with her name. And, yes, I know they are married due to it popping up in music news a lot. Since most people seem to listen to music a lot (even though I don’t), I assume more people know this than don’t, at least amongst my generation. No, I wouldn’t think it weird that you didn’t know this, though. ---

Yes, only because of the Cuba “scandal”. Prior to that I would have (randomly) guessed she was single. I knew who Jay-Z was prior as well, in a vague “He makes hip-hop music I don’t listen to” way but didn’t realize the two were married. ---

The only reason I’m aware of Beyoncé at all, is that her name cracks me up. (‘Someday I’ll be engaged, and then I’ll have a beyoncé!’ 😛 ) I think it’s probably common knowledge for people who find celebrities interesting. I don’t give a crap about celebrities – especially the ones that are irrelevant to me. OK, if I met Buzz Aldrin or Shane MacGowan, I’d probably post about it. But Beyoncé is (I think) some kind of singer whose music I have absolutely no interest in. Kim the Cardassian is… I don’t know why she’s famous. Something about a sex tape, I think. She has an amusing name, though. People like them are completely irrelevant, and so are their SOs. I don’t think it’s weird or surprising to find someone who doesn’t know their details. I think it’s weird and surprising that people do care. ETA: If you showed me a picture of Beyoncé or Kim the Cardassian, or someone like them, I could not identify who was in the photo. I’d recognise Paris Hilton, but she is irrelevant. . ---

No, I don’t know who Beyonce is married to. Not really my genre of music, so I don’t pay any attention to her. I don’t think it’s unusual to not know who a famous singer is married to. I would think it a bit uncommon to not know that Beyonce herself was a famous singer. ---

If you had asked “Is Beyonce married?” I’m not sure I’d have known the answer. So no, no clue who she’s married to. Honestly, the only celeb trivia I know are the bits that might make it on the news, and even then I tend to tune out mentally because I’m really not interested.
