I think he’s a broad-based artist and in pursuit of that art he takes big risks and sometimes doesn’t quite get to where he’s aiming. Generally, I think his sensibility and integrity is sound and valid.
He certainly isn’t looking for approval from a comfortable white guy audience because they will never occupy the same space.
But I d think, as an artist, he does and will continue to challenge, and even positively change the direction of lives.

Misogynistic pouty mamma’s boy with zero fashion sense and an overinflated ego. Don’t like his music either (and unlike some posting here, I’ve got no beef with rap as a genre.).
Let me put it this way - he actually makes me feel sympathy for _Kim_ fucking _Kardashian_, that she’s married to him.

I remember a few years back, when Kanye got his first real taste of “controversy”, I read a review for his newest CD in the Rolling Stone; they had a passage where they basically said, “Why isn’t this controversy sinking him? Well, here’s your answer: he’s incredibly good at his job, and this CD is incredible.” At the time, I had to agree - a lot of his material was really, really good. In fact, it still is. His most recent piece with Rhianna and Paul McCartney is really, really well done. But I don’t think his public persona is quite as untoppable as it used to be. He just keeps on saying and doing really dumb things. 😕

Gold Digger with Kanye’s vocals stripped is imho an improvement.
I cannot fathom why hes considered talented but then again I think the entire pop industry could die in a fire tonight and the world would be a better place.

You know, I thought I must have done, because I could quote lyrics from it, but I just listened to it on YouTube, and… nope, never heard that before. Turns out I’ve just read enough references to it on the internet to fool my brain. _Maybe_ I heard a short clip of it at some point?
Browsing through his other songs, the only one that sounds familiar at all is “Stronger” – and that’s only the Daft Punk sample.

I’ve never heard that song, nor do I think I’ve heard any other song of his. I doubt they play it on the Pandora stations I listen to (Tom Waits, Miles Davis, Nina Simone, etc.) and unless they play it on TV shows like Archer, John Oliver, the Americans, or Veep, I can’t imagine when I would have heard it.

The Wife and I just watched the latest SNL and Kanye was the musical guest. This is the first time I have consciously listened to one of his performances. Does he always use that much auto-tune?
(I am not even quite sure which performer was Kanye out of the dozen or so singers up on the stage.)
So, indifferent to both his music and his other antics.

I’ve mentioned this before, but for a long time I was certain that Kanye West and Cornell West were the same person. I was devastated when I found out that he wasn’t an esteemed Harvard professor who also managed to launch a successful rap career.
