I believe The Rutles “All You Need is Cash” aired on our local PBS station right around the mid 1980s boomer Beatlemania revival in which everybody that lived through the 60s looked at each other and remarked upon how oh so long ago 20 years was. As such, the Rutles fit right in, it’s a great fake documentary with some cameos that would be impossible to even think about getting five or ten years later, and of course the best Beatles songs the Beatles never wrote.
We once took a long car trip and one of the albums we listened to was the Rutles LP, and one of our passengers had no idea who the Rutles were, but was familiar with the Beatles, and he spent most of that album being amazed at how many Beatles songs he’d never heard before. Neil Innes was a genius.
