I didn’t like the results the first time I took the tests, so I took them again and put a more positive spin on some of my answers. They _still_ say I’m moderately likely to be depressed (22 on the first test and 35 on the second). I thought I was just lazy, insomniac, and overwhelmed. Who knew I was depressed as well? So that’s _another_ thing I should be taking action about instead of spending all my time on the internet. ---

second try to tell this after I posted it in a wrong thread by mistake… sigh I just remembered that I once took a depression test that had: ``` do you use your seat belt when going by car? in it. Oh the deeper meaning of laziness.. weird enough - at that time I REALLY didnt use seatbelts because I didnt want to let a chance go to die in case we had an accident rolleyes Still I cant imagine that question would give you any clue about wether somebody is clinically depressed or not ``` ---

Same as **Dinsdale** - 13. But this has been a decent week for me in terms of depression - I’ve been in too much physical pain to be depressed and had several fun hours in the ER yesterday night. I’ll have to go back and take it during one of the many weeks I have hysterical crying jags for no apparent reason. If I change it to what I’ve felt in the last month instead of week, my score goes _way_ up - 27. ---

Simetra’s test =23 Born Dodgy’s test =28 If I had taken these tests _before_ Christmas, my scores would be much higher. I always expect too much of myself at this time of year. I have the flu right now --the flu shot wasn’t available to me until about ten days ago :rolleyes:. I’m depressed because last time I caught the flu, I spent a week in the hospital, and I’ve had chronic athsma ever since. I’m without medical insurance at the moment. But even with the flu, I feel _better_ than I did last week. ---

Simetra’s test = 48(very high) BornDodgy’s test = 64(very severe) Gee, I’m a well person I also took the Goldberg Mania Inventory, which gave me a score of 65. That’s severe. (I go through being really happy and reall sad really fast, I get sumpremely happy for no reason, then crash for no reason. The joys of being me. ---

Well, here are my results: Simetra’s test: 50 BornDodgy’s: 74 Not really surprising, I guess. See [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=52813) if you want the gory details. The last time I took one of these tests, I was in a doctor’s office. When I was done, she read it over and then resumed talking normally to me. After a few minutes, she said, ‘hold on a minute, I need to make a quick phone call.’ She picked up the phone and told the person who answered, ‘This is Dr. Brown. Yes, that’s right, room 43. About 5 minutes.’ We then resumed talking. I assumed that she was calling the receptionist to tell her to send the next patient in to her since it was just about 5 minutes before the hour. Silly me! 5 minutes later, someone knocks on the door and the doctor tells them to come in. Next thing I know, there’s a security guard standing in the doorway and the doctor is saying to me, ‘I’m sorry to do this to you, but you’re going to need to go into the hospital for a couple of days…’ Two WEEKS later, I’m released to the care of my brother. Two MONTHS later, I finally return to work. The most amusing part about the whole thing was calling my manager and telling him that I needed to take a couple of days off work. It was an extremely busy time and I had three projects going live within the next week. My manager said, ‘OK, can you come by the office for a couple of hours so that you can update me on the status of your projects?’ My reply: ‘Rich, I’m sorry, but I’m afraid that I can’t do that. We’ll need to do that now. By phone. Uhhh…you see, I’m not exactly free to leave.’ The only thing that really scared me about being in a mental hospital happened during the middle of the second week I was there. I was walking down the hallway and Mark (aka ‘Elvis’) was standing there talking away to himself with his hospital gown pulled up over his head. A few seconds after I passed him, it hit me. I wasn’t in the least bit phased by him and…I realized that everything seemed normal to me. The fact that I had gotten used to it - THAT was scary. Oh yeah, and there was this guy with a lobotomy scar that wanted to have sex with me… I did meet **oldscratch** there, though. I don’t think he’s really a mental patient, he’s just plain weird. I did wind up meeting someone I really liked (aside from oldscratch, that is). We actually had a couple of dates while in the hospital. It was fun watching the look on the faces of the delivery people as they were let through the locked doors to the ward. We dated for a while after getting out of the hospital. She broke up with me because she thought that I was too depressed and messed up to be in a relationship. I thought that was a little bit fu_ked up. I mean really, here’s a woman that not only tried to kill herself once like me, but she tried twice! Ha! I’M too fu_ked up??? Anyway, the good news is that I am feeling better. That and I haven’t yet lost my warped sense of humor. 😃 ---

I got a 14, which is not depressed. I think my score would be lower, but I’ve been sick, so I had some sleepless nights and I had four days off which means extra time to fight with my sister. ---
