# Do you like turtlenecks?

I like turtlenecks, usually in conjunction with a button-down or pullover sweater. By themselves they usually make me look like a beatnik.

I’m with **Shadi**. The neck (and wrists) must be free ! Turtlenecks look comfortable and are most practical in evil Toronto Novembers (not that I’m bitter or anything), but when I wear them I’m constantly pulling at them to give my neck some air, and if I get hot and want to take it off then everything is ruined.
I am much too young for hot flashes but I’ve gotten used to them anyway. Turtlenecks do not help matters.

Yeah, I like the sweater turtleneck alone, but not the cotton knit turtleneck like you’d wear under a crewneck sweater. Too preppie. Under a v-neck - too “Star Trek.” Under a jacket? Too Carl Sagan.

Actually, according to Cosmo they’re very much this season’s thing. But I agree it does depend on the length of your neck. I have quite a long neck, but even so I’ll always put my hair up when I wear one to elongate it further. The girl at the desk next to me persists in wearing them even though she has virtually no neck, and as a result she really does look like a turtle.

If I’ve shaved, they’re great on a cold Saturday in the winter. If it’s a day that I didn’t shave, however, then they itch my neck like crazy. But since I love to not shave on Saturdays, I rarely wear them. Is that clear?

I dislike them a great deal, but unfortunately I did a show in which my character wore them and I had some of my 8bys taken in them and now every director says, “TV, I think the character would work better if you wore a turtleneck.”
I am now in rehersal for _Blythe Spirit_ and I heard the director ask the costume mistress if turtlenecks had been introduced by the time of the play “so Charles (my character) might wear one.” So instead I am wearing an ascot through much of the show.
I so dislike things around my neck that I would love to go back to the ‘70s style of mens’ shirts unbuttoned down about three buttons (without the chains, of course).

I can’t stand them. I get too hot wearing them inside; outside, the upturned collar of my vest or jacket is enough to keep me warm. If the weather is really bad, I have a nice Polartec scarf I can use.
I own two mock turtlenecks. I think I’ve worn each once.

I love wearing turtle necks! I have wooly sweater turtlenecks, thin long sleeved turtlenecks, and even shirts with short sleeves but with with a turtleneck. I wear em all the time. For the girl who said she has a big chest so turtlenecks cover them good… cleavage wise obviously, but I find the t.n.'s I have actually accentuate(sp) my figure. Anyway, as long as the material isn’t scratchy or too tight, I love em.

I like sweater turtlenecks, and long-sleeve turtlenecks are okay, but I hate short-sleeved turtlenecks. What’s the point?
In general, women look lots better with turtlenecks. With the exception of a few men, guys generally look either “euro-trashy” or “Ned Flanders-y.”

I dislike them for the same reason applejamie does like them. Even the women on the BBC version of What Not to Wear suggest that large-breasted women skip the turtlenecks. I wish I could remember exactly they way they explained why, but I can’t. I just know I agree.

I can’t stand to wear them, but I think those ribbed, fairly snug ones look great. I don’t think my neck is long enough to carry off the look, and I hate the feel of anything around my throat.
Men? Nope, not a good look. Any man in a turtleneck seems like he should be holding a pipe and have one of those tweed jackets with leather patches on the elbows. Too professorial, to me…

I have turtle neck sweaters that zip up the front. I can go from turtle to V to open and don’t have to pull it over my head.

Like the look, but if they’re too tight, I’m pulling at the collar all day. I have a couple sleeveless turtleneck sweaters. Kind of pointless from a practical standpoint, but they look good.
On men, I only like the thick sweaters that have the looser turtleneck. No regular cotton-material turtlenecks on the dudes.
