This only happens to me occasionally when I’m falling asleep at night. I think of them as “thoughts that aren’t mine” because I’ll abruptly transition from thoughts that make sense to ones that are very odd and disconnected. Things like thinking about work then about forming a line to be behead by the queen (the current one in England, not the Red Queen, ftr). I know the thoughts are literally mine, but it feels like tuning into the middle of something being said over a radio or overhearing someone else’s conversations.

Yep another here.

Although my “microdreams” aren’t the walking around, VR kind of dream. They are things like a strange dialogue, or a song (that I’ve not heard before).

> Is this a normal occurance? I recall reading that you have to be in deep REM state to start dreaming, but it can happen immediately for me.

Actually, dreams can and do happen in NREM sleep. You can Google Robert Stickgold and NREM to find some of his research into NREM dreams.

I know this thread is old but it came up in a Google search for microdreams and I just thought I’d respond to the NREM question. Hope it helps.
