Can I go back to my childhood knowing what I know now? Actually, I had a great childhood. I’d go back. The fun stuff outweighed the bad. ---

Geez! I guess I had a pretty good childhood from what i’m seeing here. I was never really bullied or picked on, I always did god in school and I always had pretty cool friends. I’m sorry to hear that some of you had such a rotten time as a kid. You don’t think not having a good childhood taints your adulthood just a little? I always assumed everyone loved being a child. I guess i’m pretty clueless here about that. ---

Somehow I think this thread isn’t heading in the direction the OP had hoped! But it seems far too many of us spent our childhoods sad. hurt and afraid. I vascillated between fearing my father would kill me and trying to kill myself. My mother turned a blind eye to all the abuse in our home and just slept on the couch. I did the best I could to keep up with my chores (what a joke the word chores is there! cook, clean, shop, pay household bills, chase parents for paychecks, deliver little brother to activities), go to school, work, and keep my brother out of trouble. I want to cultivate a far different environment for my own kids. ---

Well, between my parents’ divorce, my mom’s psycho-stalker-2nd husband, being forcibly uprooted and moved, and my teenage depression, I’ll take the adult years of relative peace, thankyouverymuch. ---

Man, I had a great childhood! I miss parts of it, but am pretty happy now, too. I’m planning on reliving my childhood as I raise my son up anyway. His 2nd birthday is tommorrow, by the way! I got him a “little guy” tool set and work bench to throw around the house. And I can play with it, too! ---

I was majorly depressed my whole childhood. So, no I wouldn’t go back. I like my depression-free adult life much better. ---

No. The lack of responsibility that makes childhood seem so carefree in retrospect is but spurious. Childhood had its own set of cares and woes. As an adult, I have different burdens, but now I also have sex, alcohol, and guns. Those count for a lot. ---
