I’ve had an Isuzu Trooper named Suzi, a Ford Econoline van named Morrison, and a Volvo wagon lovingly named The Uglymobile. They were the only ones with personalities, though; all the others were just inanimate cars.

I’ve only had 3 cars so far (all hatchbacks, because hatchbacks rule) but I named all of them. Interestingly, I didn’t really USE the name of the car I didn’t care for. I guess that shows that naming an object is part of a “bonding” thing.

My first car was a 1991 Dodge Shadow that was the most stripped-down model possible (I bought it when it was already 10 years old). She was Stella and I grew really attached to her (HEY! Don’t call my car a piece of shit! Only _I_ can call her a piece of shit! :D).

My last car was a 2003 PT Cruiser named Tilly. I was never all that happy with that car and got it mostly because Stella seemed to be on her last legs.

My current car is MY car: 2012 Ford Fiesta that I bought new and ordered to my specs. Her name is Roxanne or Roxy for short. The SYNC voice is named Darla and we argue. I tell Roxy that she is WAY too good for Darla but those two crazy kids are in love.

I’m not against naming a car a guy’s name, though (I christened my friend’s 89 Tempo with the name Angelo). It all depends on the car itself.

We named our 2004 Cadillac SRX _Gandalf_. Officially, he’s silver (grey) but in bright sunlight he can look white.

Our 2002 Chevy Malibu is called _Kermit_. It’s not easy being green. 😉

I used to have a Geo Metro which was a lovely cranberry color; being an SCA herald, I promptly named the car _[Murrey](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murrey)_.

The best one was my old Ford Maverick. It was that kind of shit orange/brown color from the 70’s, and was rusting through in many, many places. I named it the _Antelope_ as in [Barrett’s Privateers](http://youtu.be/ZIwzRkjn86w): “She had a list to port and her {seats} in rags.”

The nav voice in our Odyssey was dubbed Abby just a little ways into our cross-country drive.

Abby Normal.

Any passenger is allowed to say, “Shut up, Abby!” when she tells us for the fourth time to make the next left. Frequently, that is.

Caliber?

My first car was a 1978 Dodge Diplomat, and in the family it became known as the Dip or the Dipper. Most people call me Kathy, but some call me Kat, and in 1985 I was dating a guy who started calling the car the Katmobile. In 1989 I traded it in for a brand new Ford Probe. My (same) boyfriend wanted to call it Katmoblie 2, but I said, no, it’s smaller and brand new; obviously it is a Kittenmoblie. So that was what we called it until 1997, when I traded it in on a new Probe, which became Kittenmolbile 2. Last March I traded that car in on a brand new 2012 Civic coupe, which is Kittenmobile 3, although my old boyfriend, with whom I remain friends, calls it K3.

My gf calls her Subaru “buzzbuzz”. She calls her Dodge Dakota “Rusty” although there isn’t any rust other than the back bumper.

I’ve never named a vehicle.

Current ride, mint green 2012 Fiat 500 = “Sweet Pea” although she looks like an Easter Egg. Esther might be a better name.

Previous ride, red 1995 Honda del Sol = “Dede Speedster”
A pickemup truck I had, black 1993 Isuzu pickup = “Daisy”

My Pontiac Vibe was dubbed ‘Ghost’ very quickly. 🙂

It’s white, and I was reading “A Game of Thrones” at the time I got it.
