We used to have a white Plymouth van. She was Vanna White. The white VW Golf we have at the same time was Heebee White. My current VB is still Heebee, though it’s silver gray.

1985 Chevy Impala was Meg, after Carcharadon Megaladon. Huge, prehistoric, grey, and dangerous.

2006 Saturn Vue is Vehikles, but I have no idea why.

Other intervening vehicles have not revealed their names to me.

A coworker had a Chevy Lumina which had had its model name pried off and reglued as “Animul”.

> Sometimes, sometimes not. Some seem to have personality, others don’t. Old Bessie, a 1990s Oldsmobile, had a personality because I was constantly having to “coax” her into doing things. The current car? Nah.

Yes, me too. I had a friend in college who named all of his cars. One was “Besty
Melody Smith” an Austin-Healy bug-eyed Sprite. She was dark blue with a black hard top and a white soft top. She had a luggage rack on the boot. It is amazing what two college kids can haul on one of these.

My first car a 1941 Nash series 600 I called “The Coupe” because that is what she was, a business mans coupe. The trunk could hold two grand pianos I swear!

The next few had no personality or I had them so fleetingly as to not ever having got to know them. The 1964 VW Baja I call “The Baja”. Real imaginative. I owned several VWs at the time. My 1959 VW bus with the factory “modified” 36 horse engine we called “lil engine” for the little engine that could. Uphill she would grind and grind I had to down shift often. Even if she crested the hill in first gear, she \*\*always \*\* got me there.

When I first got married, my wife told me she married me for my 1959 Ford pickup. We call it “The Old Ford”. We still have it. I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I know which side my bread is buttered on. The Old Ford has a forever home! We had a 1962 Ford unibody pickup that was and is, “Old Blue”. It is my cousin’s now.

Our current subaru has not reveiled its identity and name yet. The 1976 Honda CB1000 is “The Black Beauty”.

The list goes on and on. Of note though, my 1965 Dart with a 426 Hemi shoehorned into it. It was “Delta Dart” For an airplane of the same name.

I only named my first car, which was a 1980 Honda Accord I owned back in school. I named it Bob, after the Atlanta Braves’ 3B Bob Horner. Horner was on the disabled list frequently, and so was my car.

Yep. I just don’t have vehicles that don’t have character, so they also have names.

Currently, at our house there is:
Eleanor (an elegant fast lady),
Typhynny (she’s very trashy),
Yoshi,
Kwak,
Uug (bit of a caveman),
Blue (a green ute),
Dirty (dirt bike),
& Middy (mid-wheel base 4WD).

And I just sold Genki and regret it very much.

We’ve always named our vehicles. Currently, we have:

Kuzco (my orange Honda Element)
Padfoot (the spouse’s “serious black” Nissan Altima)
Mad-Eye (my BMW F800GS motorcycle, so named because of his headlights)
Mjölnir (spouse’s BMW K1600GT motorcycle)
Mojo (our communal Honda T-Max scooter, whom the Dope helped name. :))

I’ve a 76 Chevy for a plow truck named ‘Puddles’. Um. She leaks a little oil.

She is going to be replaced by an '04 Dodge with a Hemi in it. When I bought it there was still snow on the ground and I did not dare drive it since it had street tires on it (we where still regularly getting 1 foot storms). Even in 4x4, no way no how would it have made it up the drive after a heavy snow.

Anywho, it’s named William. It took a lot of ‘will’ power to not drive my new truck for the first month of having it. Also takes some will power to not flex that hemi.

I have no name for my daily driver. Nor does my Wife for hers.

My family has a long, (ig)noble history of naming our cars.

The convertible coupe my dad drove when he and my mom were dating was called Yankee Dog. They’d been to see a WWII movie in which a Japanese soldier screamed “DIE, YANKEE DOG!”, and when they got home, the car wouldn’t shut off but kept coughing and sputtering, earning the name.

The station wagon my brothers and I drove in high school was called the Rambling Wreck by my mom and the Shitmobile by the rest of us.

My current car, a 97 Saturn coupe, has three names, like T. S. Eliot decreed cats do. Her formal name is Rocket Venus (after “pocket Venus”, because she’s small, pretty, and drives like a bat out of hell). Her every day name is Sweetie Pie. Her third name is known only to her.

Mom calls her current car Old Dobbin. It’s a sturdy Prius, and it gets her faithfully home every night.

Our former Ford Escape hybrid was known as the Nannymobile, for its many annoying beeps and boops whenever you offended it by failing to _immediately_ perform one of its mandatory tasks (not having your seatbelt fastened the instant the engine was turned on, not releasing the parking brake, not checking the gauges, tuning to the wrong radio station, being critical of the Nannymobile etc.).

True, it didn’t have all the latest annoying warnings, like ones for not being perfectly in the center of your lane or beeping as you back up. But all that stuff is probably going to be mandatory on future vehicles.

She’s a 2008 Kawasaki ZX6R race bike.
A friend printed a sticker with a quote from an Eminem song “Two trailer park girls go round the outside” and stuck it to the bike (i.e, me and the bike are trailer park girls and we overtake others around the outside on corners). It was just a joke, that stuck as she has been crashed a few times, and has a roughed up look, hence a bit trashy 🙂 And Typhynny was the trashiest, trailer-park-iest name we could come up with that fit her 🙂

I have only named one. My 1980 Plymouth Duster. (When I bought it, they told me I had to buy Volaré parts for it…) I went to have it insured and the agent asked me what kind of car I had. I told him it was a 1980 Plymouth Duster. He looked in his book and told me that my car did not exist. I assured him it most certainly did, it was in his parking lot. The title was not helpful, as all it said was “2 door coupe.” We eventually insured it as a Volaré.

Found out later that it was a “crossover” car. I was told there were only about 2000 of them made. A Duster body on a Volaré chassis.

I named her Dustaré.
