I’ve become obsessed with it. Finding new interests and people and perusing the truly strange people that share my views. So what about you? Do you OkCupid?

We kinda talked about it in a thread on onine dating a while ago. (can’t remember when or what it was called) I used to have a profile and I know **Ultrafilter** did. Can’t remember if **Misnomer** used it and I think a couple of other Dopers might have been on it as well.

I stopped using it because I ran out of guys that looked interesting in my age group and the profiles seem to skew young. (I’m in my thirties) Plus, I liked the Nerve/Springstreet site better. But now Springstreet has been bought by a guy who’s been convicted of spamming (he also owns adultfriendfinder among other sites), changed into Fastcupid, and totally screwed up. (the database is broken and can’t even search by zipcode, the server is slower than the Dope at it’s slowest in the old days, there’s a new more expensive option that makes the site kinda stratified, all profiles take days to get approved and are censored for content, and you are forbidden to exchange emails or phone numbers using the sites contact system. Yes, it really is that bad.) I might have to check out OkCupid again…

Stumbled upon the link to their personality test a few years ago and took it out of boredom. Ended up signing up to get my results and shortly thereafter became somewhat addicted to all the user created tests.

Put up a short profile and a few pics, exchanged some emails with a few people, met one person IRL, and rarely even check out the site any more.

Oddly, I don’t utilize the new feature to highlight certain words within your profile, and seem to get more emails than I did before that option was available.

I’m another person who signed up just to get my test results. Didn’t really do anything with it after that, though.

I still have a profile there, but I don’t really look there too much, as the userbase in my area is pretty small and skews too young for me–and I’m only 25.

While I was still active, I set up an SDMB real friends network so that we could all have a large social circle. If you care to join, send a friends request to me (I go by the same name over there) and I’ll add you next time I’m over there.

Did belong – took down that ad (and all the others) after a certain gentleman and I met … at OKCupid. BTW, both of us are significantly over 30. Go figure.

I have one and met a local friend through it but mostly ignore it although I did recently revamp it and literally had someone that might be moving to my area in the next year message me only a day or two later.

I have a profile there (as _RedGuitarGrl883_) but don’t really check it all that often anymore. I take tests every once in a while and check my matches every couple of weeks but they’re all the same old guys who will never be interested so I pretty much don’t bother. But yes, I’m there.

Yep, I did. 🙂 And this:

Is _exactly_ how I feel! I really liked the Springstreet interface, totally hate the FastCupid stuff, have been thinking I might need to go back to OKCupid, etc. 🙂

In the 10 months since I got back into online dating I’ve only had two meetings make it to a second meeting, and both guys were from OKCupid (I even wound up dating one of them for a few months, and ultimately deleted my OKCupid profile because 1) it made me a little sad to see him in my search results all the time after we broke up, and 2) he was one of the same 6 guys that would come up every time). It really sucks that there aren’t more men in their 30s/40s on that site, but maybe now that Springstreet/FastCupid has imploded…?

I still have ads up on [Match.com](http://Match.com) and Yahoo Personals, but I’m not paying for either service. I got a little burned out on the online dating scene, and it’s still not quite right for me, but I always come back to the same rationale: I’m not so much as _hearing_ about eligible men any other way, despite working full-time, being in grad school, and running four Toastmasters clubs. OKCupid is free, and the tests are a lot of fun … and I can definitely handle seeing that guy’s ad in my search results now (if he’s still there)!

I used it, but then I met my SO on another site and so I really have no need to visit it anymore. I did check my SO’s profile on a lark though and we looked at the comparisons. It says he’s better mannered than I am. That is very, very, very true!

Well, I had never heard of it, but decided to check it out. Like so many of these “tests”, though, I don’t think I’m going to be able to finish. For instance:

> Suppose your boyfriend/girlfriend is horribly burned in a car accident that was totally your fault. They are badly mutilated and _pissed off_. Is it time to say goodbye? We’re trying to see how you cope with change.
>

> o no

How in the world is that a yes or no question? Especially since, the way they pose the question, it sounds like it’s the bf/gf’s decision to make.

Gah! I hate these things.

The last time I visited OkCupid, it attempted to install some spyware on my system, so I’m not that happy with it. But, I’m another one who now absolutely hates that Springstreet changed to FastCupid. It’s partly that I despise the lame interface, but also that it changed from pay-per-message to a monthly fee. Pay-per-message meant I could occasionally send an email when I found someone who seemed really interesting. A monthly fee means I have to be making every effort to make contact or I’m wasting my money. It also means the desirable women are going to be even more inundated with messages, which means I’ll never get a reply. Bah.

So, I have an ad up at Match and Yahoo personals, but I’m not subscribed to any service right now. Perhaps I’ll crank my firewall up from Cautious to Paranoid-Schizophrenic and go make a profile at OkCupid. Though from the sound of it there’ll be very few women there old enough to be worth dating.

Was that an unskippable question? Of the questions I’ve answered (a little under 600), I don’t think I ran into more than one or two that were unskippable. Also, there’s no “end” to those questions that I’m aware of. I’ve seen a few people who have answered 1100+, at any rate, so don’t think you’re gonna be done anytime soon. 😃

As for me, I have a profile on there, and had some fun with the site. Answered those few hundred questions, taken over 100 user-made tests (hey, I get bored at work), and e-mailed some interesting people. Sadly, the girls on that site don’t tend to be in “let’s go out for a cup of coffee” range from me, so I haven’t had any face-to-face meetings (yet).

I’ll probably be moving onto [Match.com](http://Match.com) next, as it seems like they have a (much) larger user base, but I’ll probably try and find/take some better pictures of myself first.

It was in the profile set-up, not in the questions that you can skip. I actually did leave it blank - along with the one asking how many sex partners I’d had  and it went through anyway. I don’t know if that’s good or bad.

I’m having fun with the endless questions, but geez - half of them are sex-related! I guess I have officially passed over into old-fogeyism. I don’t think it’s a stranger’s business whether or not I’ve ever had a threesome.

It’s nobody’s business but the other two people. 😉

I have a profile up there (_bleupoo_), but I’m not really trying to meet people to date. I like taking the tests, answering the questions and checking out other people’s profiles just for the heck of it, but online dating still kinda creeps me out. I only found one or two profiles that ever sounded like people I’d be willing to meet. I did end up meeting one of them after several months of emailing, and we really hit it off (a rarity!). Unfortunately he lived in New Orleans and the day we met up was the day Katrina’s track meandered slightly west and headed for the city. The next day he evacuated and he hasn’t been back since. (sigh) Go figure.

I still like the questions though, even though OKcupid seems to think I’m “less horny” and “more mathematical” than other females my age - now that just don’t seem right.

Yeah, there is: the last time I had a profile there I answered all of the questions. When you do that, you have the option to then provide input on whether proposed new questions are good ones. 🙂

I’m with those that are very disappointed with the way Spring Street Networks has changed recently. I also thought that OKCupid was too much on the young side, but to me it looks like the situation is improving.

One other thing about Spring Sreet - for the first time in a very long time, I’d finally put together a profile that I liked, wasn’t embarassed to re-read a week after writing it, and which actually got a few responses. Then they change to FastCupid and most of that stuff is gone. Arrgh.
