I just bought a cheap external DVD/CD player to connect with my laptop. Some years ago, I copied all of my digital photos to CD-Rs, and everything was fine until I bought my newest laptop, which doesn’t have a disc player. I really want to upload all of these to online storage, so I popped for a $20 drive.
I also have a cheapie external DVD/CD player that connects to my laptop via USB-A. I had to get it to install Quickbooks from CDs onto the current laptop. I may have used it one other time and I’ll probably never use it again but it’s good to have just in case.
All of the Blu-Ray players I’ve seen will also play DVDs (and CDs, I believe), so I said yes.
I was glad I had one when Netflix dumped Orphan Black… and I was halfway through Season 1.
I didn’t want to wait for Amazon, so I ran out and bought a box set. Now no one can take it away! Same with a lot of my favorites.
I pretty much never re-watch a tv series or movie so streaming is a better fit for my weird use case. If I had favorite things that I like to watch over and over it would be a different story.
Somewhere around here I still have the portable DVD player that I used to watch movies in my bunk on the boat, but I’ve used it maybe twice since I retired from the Navy 22 years ago.
Still own and still use quite frequently.
We amassed quite a collection of…how you say…“non-commercially released” concert DVDs back in the day and still enjoy them as background music on rainy Saturdays.
Several. One is hooked up to a soundbar in my bedroom. I use it as a stereo. For all the CDs I have.
Yes I do, as I have quite a large DVD collection. I have a ton of movies from my time in England as well and my 15 year Philips finally packed up so I have recently replaced it with a JVC
