There are news reports that a lot of Thais are taking it seriously. Possibly the unwashed masses. No Thai I personally know believes it to be true, or possibly they don’t want to leave themselves open to my scoffing. Still, I expect to hear a lot of firecrackers going off to keep Rahu at bay. The noise from Cambodia alone should be deafening. ---

One of my dearest, if not my best friend thinks something might happen. I don’t know how we got on the subject, but she went on to say that I should spend at least an hour outside on Friday. I did not ask her to elaborate. I donno. She’s kind of… ‘Spiritual’. Very open minded. Kind of reminds me of Dharma from the show Dharma and Greg. Anyway, she says I help keep her ‘Grounded’. Otherwise, she’s a very sweet, intelligent person. ---

I’d bet my mother-in-law believes it, and likely her two daughters. I’m not about to have a conversation about it with them though, and my MIL I hope knows better than to bring it up with me. She gets tired of hearing me say, “You know that that’s bullshit, right? Right?”. Personally, I hope it does happen Friday because then I don’t have to worry about Christmas shopping. ---

Schools where I live (Genesee county, MI) are closed today and tomorrow in large part because of “Mayan calendar” bomb and shooting threats. [Mayan calendar threat of violence at Genesee County schools ‘took on life of its own,’ says Sheriff Robert Pickell.](http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2012/12/sheriff_robert_pickell_no_cred.html) Official word now is that the threats are “not credible.” (No schmidt, Sherlock…) but I suppose in the wake of the CT shooting, they’re not taking any chances. A friend told me today that her daughters (5 and 9) are quite worried about the end of the world. Meanwhile, I just paid my mortgage. I’m going to be _s_o pissed off if the world ends tomorrow. Oh, wait… ---

I know somebody who is very very reluctant to go to an “end of the world” party with me on Friday because he doesn’t really believe the Mayan thing per se, but he thinks the world is going through something very strange and is on the verge of taking a drastic turn of some kind. Sort of like kanicbird, actually… Shit. It’s a huge conflict for him though because as fucking weird as he is about this and everything else, he also can’t turn down a party like EVER. Time will tell if we end up going or not. I’m actually reluctant myself now because if it doesn’t turn out well, I’ll definitely be subjected to a lot of crazy talk about it. ---
