Do you REALLY think you're gonna catch SARS?

I am posting from Taiwan. I arrived last night and it’s my third trip out here this year. I can’t believe how much the media has overblown this. There are some members of my family who are worried sick over me being here. They’re way more likely to die driving around on the Southern Califonia freeways.

Oh, okay. I remember The Star speculating a little saying “oh, no! What about PRide and Caribana?!” but there’s been a lot more press to the contrary (at least about Pride, I think Caribana is going to be in deeper doo-doo because they are much more expensive.) I thought there may have been a"new development" that I hadn’t heard about.

In case anyone is wondering, according to the current issue of Xtra!

Not worried about it one whit. I’d go up to Toronto right now (especially 'cause Eaton Centre rocks). Hell, given the opportunity, I’d go to Beijing or Taiwan or any of the places SARS has been reported. I highly doubt I’d get it and, if I did, I’d probably recover without incident.

They’re really serious about prevention in Taiwan. You can’t enter a public building without having your temperature taken. In a lot of places they spray your hands with some sort of sanitizer. All of the employees of the hotel where I am staying are wearing masks. At least it seems to be on the wane.

I had a friend visit me for a few days recently - he’s a doctor working in Toronto. My only worry was that if he or I came down with a cold during his stay and the authorities found out, it could get nasty.
