OK, new car dealership, if you can cash my check in two days’ time, it shouldn’t take you weeks to send off my tag/title/registration paperwork!!!

Very mini rant: Today I enjoyed episodes 1-3 of Billy Connolly’s Rt 66 series on youtube. But the only videos I can find of episode 4 are unwatchable, just horrible quality. Most disappointing.

I watched the final season of The Americans Thur-Sat.

I think the only show finale that disappointed me worse was Lost.

> A gallon of “Grassy Savannah” later, it’s workable.

When I painted our house (with HD paint, no less) I figured out the best route is to buy a quart and apply that as far as it goes, then spend a day or so before deciding. In the living room we went from chip sample to painting the whole kaboodle and there was less green and more blue than we had figured. Comparing the chip against the wall showed no mistake in mixing – two square inches of color just looks different than a whole wall.

We went the quart route in the two bedrooms and one went as-is, the other we got a more pastel shade of yellow.

When I was in the Air Force, i was given the task by the Base Commander to pick a paint color for the dormitory floor that I lived on. There were very few options to choose from. I chose a chip that was pale yellow. Then I went on vacation. When I got back, the painting had been completed. It was the color of school buses (plus the acrylic paint easily peeled off the walls whenever anybody brushed against it). Everybody on the floor asked me how I could have chosen such an awful color.

6 weeks ago I fell and broke my shoulder. 3mm fracture in the greater tuberosity of my humerus, my complaint is it still freaking hurts. It is much better and I am back home and able to drive… so things are improving but I am tired of hurting. pain pills don’t seem to work on me other than to make me sleepy (and constipated). everything takes way more time and effor to do than I am used to… just getting dressed is exhausting.
My parents are pushing me to pursue a lawsuit but I am not sure what I would sue for… my insurance has paid for most of it and my leave at work has covered my time off provided I don’t have to have surgery (doctor hasn’t ruled it out yet). I don’t want to be money grubbing but the store had a hazard they should have known was a hazard and their representative was pretty meh about it.
Do I wait until the surgeon decides whether I need surgery to contact the lawyer? Wont I need to know haw much I am harmed before I talk to the lawyer? Currently it is a several hundred dollars and a lot of inconvenience.

Here’s my rant: AMATEUR YOUTUBE INFORMATIONAL VIDEOS!!

Just. Get. On. With. It.

Good holy grief, people. If you’re going to make an informational video in your kitchen or outside at some historical site, for the love of God, don’t spend the first ten minutes telling me what you’re going to tell me! Or telling me how you came to have the idea of doing this video and how many of your friends (not to mention your mother) suggested you do it. And don’t for one minute think that having your kid in there with you making with the snappy repartee adds AT ALL to the instructional value of the video. It doesn’t.

Also, stabilize your freakin’ camera somehow! I don’t want to have to either take a Dramamine at the beginning or else pause during it to throw up.

And consider the position of the camera relative to the activity you’re being instructional _about_. Yeah, you’re making a nice espresso with your new machine, but the handle of the filter holder is completely blocking what you’re doing from view. Don’t you watch these things before you post them?? Hmmm??

And if you’re making an outdoor video at a historical site (in this case the site of the dam break that resulted in the Johnstown Flood of 1889) pay attention to where the camera is relative to the sun so you and your cute kid (not) aren’t washed out (as it were) in the glare. Stabilize the G.D. camera! I couldn’t watch more than two minutes because of nausea (although, in truth, I’m not sure if it was the motion of the camera or the stupid banter you were sharing with your precocious [not] pre-adolescent son).

_However_, if anyone wants to include kittens in their instructional videos on any topic, that is perfectly okay by me.

Thank you.

Dear cousin, I know this is your extended family’s vacation week on the Outer Banks, and that you’ve sunk a large amount of money into preparing for the trip and securing accommodations. I saw the pictures you posted this morning, and as a longtime resident of North Carolina, I can tell you that you aren’t experiencing ‘the work of the Lord’ – that’s a freakin’ hurricane approaching. My family had our share of vacations interrupted due to impending hurricanes – it royally sucks. I really hope you’re not going to try to ride this out – especially not in that part of the state, and especially not with all those kids.

I dread tomorrow with the inevitable Facebook posts wallowing in recreational grief about 9/11 and the ensuing Islamophobia and manufactured outrage over the mythical “Pepsi Pledge Can”, etc. etc. etc. etc. I’d like to see us focus on fixing what’s wrong today rather than engaging in a national pity party every year.

Just got a text from my gf, he’s doing great. She took off work. Walks and five minutes of grazing every two hours continues until 10 tonight. We’ve been going at this since 7 am yesterday. It will be nice sleeping tonight, I’m looking forward to it like a six year old looking forward to xmas.🙂

Last month, when my 79-year old father was hiking in the mountains and slipped on a rock, we counted ourselves fortunate that he was at a synagogue retreat. Lots of affluent Jews = lots of doctors. He and my mom had to cut the weekend short to come home and go to the hospital. His arm was broken just below the shoulder, and a week later, he had his surgery–plate and screws. I’m glad I live in town because he couldn’t drive, so I was the one running errands.
My mother isn’t really any help, because she’s blind and in early stages of dementia. So I also got to take on some of dad’s caregiving duties.

Last week, I get a call from dad–mom was being walked up the driveway by a friend who had taken her to lunch, the driveway is lined with nut trees. Squirrels love nut trees. Squirrels are also not known for having clean eating habits. Mom slipped on a tung nut, fell and broke her arm.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

So now, I’ve got two septuagenarian parents with broken arms, one blind and a bit addled, the other has been pissed off about something since the '70s (think Lewis Black, without the stage presence), and a hurricane coming that we have to prepare for.

I love my parents, and I’m glad I’m in town to take care of them as much as they’ll let me. So yeah. I’m ready for October.

[Billy Mays Voice]
BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!
[/Billy Mays Voice]

I work in a mental healthcare clinic in my hometown. Last week I see a familiar name on the schedule. My ex-fiancee, who I have not spoken with in 20 years. To say she was surprised to see me would be an understatement.
To say she was _pleased_ to see me would also be an understatement. Apparently she’d been thinking about me fondly lately, and really wants to reconnect. My wife is fine with this, not being the jealous type and knowing I’d never do anything, but I’m still a little weirded out by the whole situation. She’s approaching this a rather intensely. I’m not particularly interested in reconnecting, but I don’t want to be rude–she’s also a patient (not of mine, since I’m office staff), so a full blow-off isn’t an option either. So I AM glad that over the past 20 years, I’ve learned to set boundaries.

Sorry if that was a little long for a mini-rant.

My advice would be to talk to an attorney. I injured myself (it was medical malpractice actually) many years ago. I didn’t pursue it. I felt that everyone makes mistakes and that I didn’t need to be punitive. Or something. Years later, I’ve had 2 more surgeries and the issue will never be right. The doctor had insurance, in my case. The store has insurance in your case. You don’t know yet what the long term implications are. Look out for yourself.
