It is the only thing I have of hers other than some truly good memories. I will ask the daughter if she wants it, though. I think that fair. She may want it just to tease her little brother a little bit. Moira told me little bro helped her knit it but did not want anyone to know. 😛 ---

Fuck. Some day, some **fucking** day _I_ will have a job where _I_ can call some poor fuck on call for no fucking reason. Some day _I_ will call and say “Just so you know this is happening, but it can wait until tomorrow to be fixed.” or “This has been giving us trouble all afternoon, but we didn’t want to bother you so I’m calling now at 12am.” or just call and complain and bitch and yell about policies or problems that have been in place for months but they are just annoying me now, while the on call person is at a movie, or playing with her son, or just fucking trying to relax. OH WAIT NO I WON’T BECAUSE I’M NOT A FUCKING ASSHOLE. ---

Fuck, I hate myself right now. Grad school orientation today. There was a really cute girl there. To my credit, for the first time ever I actually managed to work up the courage to talk to her. Nothing went horribly awry or anything, she was nice. But I could only work up the courage once or twice and felt awkward and kind of started… hovering. And then (this time I swear, by coincidence) left at the same time as her and we ended up going vaguely the same direction. So I’m really worried I may have made her uncomfortable. I stayed on the other side of the road and walked really quickly until I couldn’t see her anymore, but I’m still worried. I really wish I was blissfully unaware of how creepy my anxieties can make me. Or just less anxious in general, but I’d kind of settle for the former. I’m trying to concentrate on the fact that I made progress and actually went up and said words and made small talk with someone on my own initiative for the first time ever. But I’m just really mad at myself for probably making her uncomfortable. ☹ ---

Pot, meet kettle … ) Anyway, I wasn’t there, so I don’t know if you gave off “psycho stalker serial killer” creepy vibes, or “socially awkward” creepy vibes, but you don’t need to worry about going the same way. On a college campus, most students are following similar paths at similar times. Congrats on getting up the nerve to talk to her, though! I got sent home early from work yesterday afternoon, I was in so much pain. My new manager basically bundled me off. Spent literally every moment between getting home, and leaving this morning, alternating between icing and heat. It helped, in the sense that I can stand up without seeing stars and nearly passing out … which isn’t much of an improvement, but I’ll take it! Man, if it’s not one thing, it’s another. ---

Freakin’ PayPal. Doing Halloween/Charity Ball shopping and apparently I’ve made more purchases on eBay than PayPal likes without opening an account. Took me some Googling and finagling while on hold with their useless helpline (32min! Never picked up.), and I finally found a workaround by using my checking debit card as an actual debit card (different tab, so different paywall I guess?) with a different shipping address, phone, and email. Screw you idiots. I’m glad I’m done shopping until December. It seems funny to me that if they’re trying to mitigate fraudulent activity, I can turn around on the same purchase and change everything and it goes through. Wouldn’t it be less fraudulent if it was all the same information over the course of a couple weeks? ---

I hate checks. I hate them. You have to order them from the bank, worry about them getting stolen in the mail and then carry them around. They don’t spend directly and you have to go to the bank to cash them. They get held for awhile and that can lead to cash flow problems. For the most part, I never use them them. I use cash or my debit card for most bill payments. I have my paychecks direct deposited. Unfortunately, There are two places I can’t avoid them. My husband works for a small company (\<5 employees) and gets paid weekly in handwritten checks. Sometimes he can’t get to the bank when he wants to and the writing can be difficult to decypher. So he gets paid on Mondays but we don’t see that money until Wednesday most of time. What really grinds my gears are the people who want prompt payment by check and then do nothing with them. Right now, my daycare is sitting on two weeks worth of checks for no reason. On Monday, after not having cashed last week’s check, she made darn sure that I got her a check for this week. It’s understandable she wants to be paid on time and we are rarely late. It’s just so irritating to be reminded four times to write her a check and then have nothing happen. She’s sitting on nearly $400 in checks and giving me false hope about my checking account. Grr! ---

My checking account entitles me to some certain number of cashier’s checks at no charge. True, I have to show up at a branch to get one, but once I do, the money is immediately debited from my balance. If your daycare provider will accept a cashier’s check, this could be a way of taking out of her hands the power to screw with your peace of mind. ---

I pay literally all of my bills online, and use a debit card for all of my purchases. But a few months ago I resumed collecting comic books, and the comic shop is so small that it’s just not financially feasible for the owner to deal with plastic. So I have to write him a check or pay cash. So I wrote that first check a few months ago … and then completely forgot that I had done so. And since a check, unlike a debit card transaction, doesn’t show up immediately when checking my account balance online, I checked my balance a week later and thought I had more money available than I actually did. I ended up having to make a trip to the pawn shop after I realized my error, just to get some quick money into my account to avoid overdrafts. ---

I loathe the TV channels that run little “information” boxes on screen during movies or TV shows (“Guess what? That special effect you’re watching is FAKE FAKE FAKE! Here’s how it was done…”). Even worse are the shows that have twits send in their tweets while watching the show, putting these inane comments in pop-up boxes onscreen. Are there really people who enjoy being force-fed what morons have to say about the program they’re watching? ---

I also hate when you deposit a large-ish check in the bank, and have to wait days until it clears - very annoying to count pennies and delay bill payments when you know perfectly well that you actually have the money, but the banks have to discuss things first… (Because, of course, there’s no such thing as instantaneous, secure methods of sharing information in this day and age, right?) Anti-rant: Tony had a nerve ablation in his back this morning. Hoping that it will help relieve his chronic pain. Rant: Have two patients right now. Lily got a bug bite on her face yesterday. This morning, it was so swollen that she couldn’t open her eyes. Benadryl is making her loopy, and the baby is running around acting crazy because neither Daddy nor Sister will play with her. I’m considering giving her a dose of antihistimine, too. I’m a terrible person… ---

My hate of checks is vindicated! What I should really do is just pay her in cash (and get receipts!) but we don’t because carrying around large wads of cash is weird now in the days of plastic. She still hasn’t cashed those checks. **Lacunae** , antihistamines are what a lot of the OTC sleep aids use as an active ingredient. Just sayin’… (Not actually advocating you drug your kids to sleep.) ---

Why is he leaving, you ask? Because he and his husband are tired of living in a homophobic state. They are both leaving good jobs, friends and family and a garden and home they worked so hard to make beautiful so they can start over someplace where they will be accepted. ---
