Rather personal there? :eek: I know I’m sticky, smelly and horrible, but it’s because I’m actually not allowed to shower for several days due to allergy patch testing. I’ve been waiting for the test for most of the year, and it’s great that it’s finally happening, but it itches like hell and I just can’t get clean only having a whore’s bath, 'cos I can’t get the test area wet. Most of the strips got taken off today, but it still needs to be kept dry for another 48 hours, and there’s horrible glue residue I’m not allowed to clean off yet. So far, all it’s showed is that I’m reacting to nickel, which I already knew. ---

Almost four days. Tony finally went back to work, on light duty, 20 months after wrecking the patrol car. He worked two 4-hour days last week, had a 4-day weekend, worked four hours yesterday, and made it about 3 hours today. His right hip is giving him hell, to the point that two of his fellow deputies had to help him walk to the truck, and then I had to get him up the steps and inside to bed with the help of a pair of crutches, then a walker. I could just cry. For him, for our family. I hoped and prayed that things would begin to get back to whatever passes for normal, but this is bad. Through this whole ordeal, Tony has been determined to return to work, and to return to patrol and K9 work. If anyone could do that after his injuries, it’s Tony, but I’m afraid that it can’t happen. He can’t sit in a desk chair for 4 hours, how can he work a 12-hour shift, with a dog? ☹ ---

It is awful, **Lacunae** , but maybe sitting is worse for the hip than walking, if the chair is no good? Maybe get the dr.'s opinion on that. Here’s hoping that things will be better soon. ---

Sadly, we’ve also tried several desk chairs during Tony’s convalescence, so that he could try to entertain himself gaming at his own computer instead of being stuck with a laptop or tablet. None have been comfortable for more than a couple of hours, even with walking-around breaks every thirty minutes. And, projecting into the future - how’s he supposed to drive a patrol car or SUV? This department works 12-hour shifts, covering a 500-square-mile county. That’s a lot of sitting time, and a lot of getting in and out. Tony already had hip surgery on the left side, last autumn, and now his right hip is the problem. And we’re already waiting for the imaging center to schedule Tony for another MRI of the shoulder that he had surgery on most recently - something’s still not right. And then it’s time to schedule the thermal ablation on his back. And now this. ---

Can something like that be arranged? A lot of the furniture involved is from IKEA, not exactly the most expensive furniture store in the world. When I had bad hip pain because of a superergonomic chair which had not been designed for Mediterranean women, I subconsciously tried to compensate for the pain and would catch myself walking or sitting in weird (bad) ways. Once I got the right chair, the pain from this bad customs took longer to go away than I’d spent with the bad chair. I’ve heard many similar stories from people who had a broken limb, back problems, etc. What do his physical therapist and traumatologist say? ---

(Seriously - they finally HAD to buy some new patrol cars last year because there were zero left. No spares for when a car had mechanical problems. Nothing for a deputy to drive after a deer collision. Nada.) After being out for 20 months, Tony got his two years worth of new uniforms on Thursday: two new shirts, two pairs of pants. One new set per year. With Tony sidelined, the department has been running with a 38-man department, including patrol and manning the jail. Most patrol shifts are running with 3 people, including the sergeant, and there are usually two officers on duty at the jail… unless someone calls out sick. It’s dire. The short-sighted county commission is another rant altogether! ---

My ex-wife’s sister thinks she’s pretty clever. Nobody in the family has spoken to her in years because, you know, pretentious condescending asshole. But my kids reacquainted themselves with her daughter and they all did the big group hug and are now FB friends. My ex SIL has managed to get her daughter’s log-in, and so she poaches on threads, making comments about grand-nephews and -nieces. Nobody is fooled, of course, because douchebags never change their, er, water. So every comment of hers is basically a thread-killer, as nobody will respond to her. Just go away, bitch.
