Do you see yourself as resembling any fictional character in literature or film?

Slight hijack: this is the most haunting thing I’ve read on here in a while. Do you wish you had quit earlier, if that were possible?

Anyway: I am Boxer, from Animal Farm.

Yes, I should have quit 10 years earlier, but then I was only in my early forties and it wasn’t an option. I feel so much better since I’ve retired and the permanent pressure is gone, though I have financial stress because my pension is small due to my early retirement age. But that’s nothing compared to the time before my retirement.

The Napoleon Dynamite character resonated with me a lot. Just being very awkward in school but at the same time being oblivious to to it. He didn’t care what other people thought and was into stuff like making bike jumping ramps, drawings of monsters, plastic swords, etc.

My first thought, before reading the thread:
I was trying to be the Fonz, turned out to be Mr. Cunningham.

Some have compared me physically to Christopher Lloyd (as Doc Brown), others in tone and style to Arthur Deitrich (from Barney Miller). I see the latter, but not the former.

On a good day, I’m a little Harris K, Telemacher.

Who?

I kind of vibed with Ado Annie. :kissing_closed_eyes:

There was a meme template going around a few years ago in which one was promted to cite three different fictional characters with whom you identified. My three were Abed from Community, Rhys from Torchwood, and Basil Fawlty saying “Please try to understand this before one of us dies.” to Manuel. When I posted that, a friend of mine commented that it was the most acurate one she’d seen yet.

I see what you did there. The book’s opening line is actually, “Who is John Galt?”

My wife just mentioned this again after seeing a copy of the AARP magazine with a picture of Jeff Bridges on the cover. She emphasized the point by expanding on a recent incident at the grocery store when I noticed a very young man wearing a T-shirt with the phrase “The Dude Will Abide” and a picture of the character. I like interesting T-shirts like that so said to the boy “Cool shirt!”. His mother then looked at me oddly for a moment or two then hurried the boy away. I thought nothing more about it at the time but my wife thinks that boy’s mother is telling people she saw Jeff Bridges at the grocery store.

So many people tell me I look like George Costanza that I must accept it.

Seven of Nine.

( in my wildest dreams)

More likely a female version of S’mike from Nicholas Nickleby.

I thought of a couple more. Rose Nylund from the Golden Girls and Chidi from The Good Place. I can relate to Rose’s naivete and Chidi’s neurotic moral despair.

People like to compare me to Leslie Knope from Parks & Recreation as soon as they know I’m on city council. I do NOT mind the comparison (although I love municipal government like her, she wasn’t on council like me!)

Personally, I feel more like Liz Lemon from 30 Rock. I am forever workin’ on my night cheese.
