Thailand is not a Christian country and so does not celebrate Christmas. However, New Year’s is a big gift-giving season that substitutes for Christmas, so the big merchants all decorate their shopping malls with Christmas themes for the tourists. They have New Year’s cards here, some of them doing double service for Christmas and New Year’s, and we send some of those for the combined holiday to acquaintances and my few remaining relatives Stateside.
Missed the Edit window. Does anyone else remember those Peanuts greeting cards for Halloween and Thanksgiving from the 1960s? By Charles Schulz?
They count.
In that case, I hand-give birthday, anniversary and Valentine’s Day cards to the wife but neglected to check those boxes. I thought “snail mail” referred just to the postal service.
EDIT: Not that I could have checked Valentine’s Day.
Since both my sons live in cities different than mine, I send cards for any birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas’s, etc. for which we will not be together. I just never feel at all special when my birthday rolls around and all I get are two texts from my two boys. I’m hopeful that eventually they will realize that the old gal would like a card, too.
I 'm not a huge fan of getting cards. They are hideously over-priced, and I never really get much out of the pre-printed sentiment. And cards make me feel bad when I throw them away, so they tend to linger and make clutter.
I appreciate the thought, but I’d prefer a simple note or a phone call to an elaborate Hallmark card.
Yep. I got one from my godmother and was thrilled with the size of it. My brothers didn’t score something so amazing. Of course, I was six.![]()
I haven’t sent cards of any description for decades now although my parents send me a christmas card and a birthday card each year. Everyone else got the message with christmas cards when I started crossing out the names, reversing them and sending the card back.
I used to give my wife a personal hand written birthday card each year and still hand deliver a christmas card with movie tickets inside for the young girls who live next to my previous home.
My hobby is creating cards, so I send a lot.
My gf reminds me each year to send my son and daughter cards on their birthdays. That’s about it. The only reason I send my kids cards is so I can put cash inside, otherwise I’d text/email a happy bd wish.
I send lots of cards, and I write lots of (snail mail) letters, mostly to my parents.
I’ve gone electronic - I can send as many e-cards as I like for an annual fee.
(The system tells me when they e-cards have arrived and when they are opened.)
I send birthday cards to my nieces. They’re 6 and 3 and think it’s fun to get mail.
Any greeting cards I buy I hand-deliver. I can’t ever remember mailing one.
We used to send Christmas cards to about 30 people. That stopped, more due to lack of enthusiasm than anything else.
I send Mother’s Day cards to my mom - but she’s pretty amazing. I don’t send her a birthday card or other holiday card - she really would prefer I spend my money on other things.
I don’t send any cards to my brother and his family, they don’t send any to me…
I don’t send any cards to my sister in law or brother in law or their families - they don’t send any to me.
I make my husband Valentine’s Day and Anniversary Cards or I reuse one from a previous year, adding this year’s sentiment to the writing somewhere else on the card. We have one card that we’ve been doing this to for about 15 years - it’s on the wall behind the couch with the other cards/paper plates in lieu of cards/misc. stuff.
Every once in a blue moon he’ll make me a card - it’s pretty rare. He did buy me one once for our first wedding anniversary and I’ve kept it for all these years. I carry it around in my purse.
The only exceptions to the above are weddings/showers/graduations for family members - then there’s a card that’s either delivered by hand if it’s a function we are attending, or mailed if we aren’t.
One last exception - I have an Aunt (she’s an old, family friend) who is pretty much forgotten by much of everyone as she’s sick and extremely eccentric - I am pen pals with her. We exchange letters at least once a month. Other than her Doctors, I’m pretty much the only contact she has with anyone anymore.
