Do you shut the bathroom door even when you're alone? (in the house or whatever)

Before my sister moved in with us, I rarely closed the bathroom door while I was doing my business. The dog wandered in a few times to check on me, but figured out that (a) I always returned from the bathroom and (b) the bathroom is that terrible place with the big tub where she has to take baths, and she’d really rather stay away from there.

Now that my sister’s living with us, I have to shut the door except when she’s not home. Then I leave it wide open and pee freely!

I always do. It’s habit. Besides, even if there are no other people in the house, the cats are always there and trying to deal with a lap-obsessed cat just doesn’t go well with the bathroom.

I leave it open if I’m upstairs… but the main level bathroom is right by the front door. Like you can’t open the front door if the bathroom door is open. If someone were to come home while I was sitting on the potty, anyone in the parking lot would be able to see me… so I close da door then.

Living alone in my apartment, I got used to having the door open for everything.

I live in a “shotgun” apartment, with one room strung after the next in a row, down a long hallway. The bathroom is next-to-last at the back, so it’s pretty well hidden.

When my sister moved in, I had a really hard time with the idea that I had to start closing it. Just seems like a waste of effort in my own home. Maybe it’s just that I don’t want to break the habit. Whatever. Sis said “gross” about once and never said anything about it again. She’s got no reason to go back there anyway unless she wants to use the bathroom…which is pointless if I’m already in there.

I like the ventilation while I shower (so that the room doesn’t fill up with condensation–no fan), so I leave it open then, too.

Then again, when I live alone, I walk around the apartment naked with all the blinds up, so I guess I’m just not worried about that stuff in general.
