Do you still have your wisdom teeth?

Yup. They came in without problem & are still there. Along with all my other teeth.

I’ve also got a slightly long skull. Women’s hats usually come in one size–too small for me.

I still have the top ones. Bottom ones were yanked.

Nope, gone when I was about 15.

3 had cysts on them, apparently there was a risk of them bursting & breaking my jaw so yeah, they were removed. The fourth was OK but crooked, and I had a crowded mouth to begin with (some of my adult teeth grew in like shark teeth, in a neat little row behind the baby ones), so they just took it while they were in there.

ETA: They weren’t yanked out, I was under anesthesia, they were up in my jaw still and not visible. I woke up, during! They novacained the hell out of me so I couldn’t feel it, but I could hear the scraping - they put me right back under. It wasn’t full general anesthesia, it was what I think they call “twilight sleep”.

Bottom two were taken out surgically when I was 12, before I got braces. They were blocking my next regular teeth so it was deemed necessary that they go then.

The main upper two were yanked when I was 18 or 19; a big piece broke off of one and so it came out in an emergency appointment, the next one was the next week. Both came out very very easily, thankfully.

But just this last June I had #5 out along with the molar next to it which was in a hopeless state. It’s a teeny tiny little mutant tooth, and it only showed up in the last couple of years. There’s another mutant one on the other side which may or may not ever make an appearance. My mother had extras as well, so I blame her. I hope it doesn’t ever show up. I don’t need to be growing any more teeth in my 30s.

My top ones never came in, and they had to take out the bottom ones when I was 13. They were growing sideways under the gums instead of up and out. Back then it was an out-patient operation with an IV and everything.

One of my adult bicuspids never came in, so there was room for the lower-right wisdom tooth to stay. All the rest, though, are out, and it seemed to go pretty smoothly (I was back to normal diet by that evening, though I was chewing mostly on the one side of the mouth).

I’ve had all five of mine out. The first one had an abcess that caused me all kinds of other problems, but didn’t hurt as a toothache. I went to the doctor because I couldn’t open my mouth and was having trouble breathing, and he sent me to the dentist. Antibiotics first, then tooth had to go.

The other four weren’t in good shape, being way back where they were hard to reach, so the dentist I have now pulled them, two by two, years ago. Not a problem, really, but he’s sooo good at making sure he uses enough painkiller and he really has the right touch for things like that.

Ironically, I didn’t grow any.

I guess that’s why you’re just The Tooth, rather than The Teeth.

I have both top ones, and one of the bottom ones. X-Ray show the 4th exists but it never erupted.

Nope, all 4 got pulled. Procedure was pain- and complication-free. I’ve heard horror stories, but mine went ideally.

Never had any - not hidden or otherwise. My dentist says it’s pretty unusual but not unheard of. I’ll have to ask her how often it happens to people named “Tooth” - that might be unique.

Still have 3 out of 4. Lower left went bye-bye about 8 years ago.

I had the top right one pulled in college. The top left never showed up. The lower ones are up halfway, and have been like that for 10 years, gathering smelly bacteria and getting the gum infected every now and then (ow). The dentists however refuse to pull them, since they don’t have cavities. I suppose I’ll have to wait until I develop an abscess. :frowning:

I have all of mine and they never fully even “came in.” I am 48.

No, I had them all removed years ago.

I’ve only ever developed one, and it never came in. It’s still there. I’m 39.

This. I saw the x-rays, and remember the word “impacted”.

My father didn’t have his out til his thirties.

First one removed after I got home from a semester in the Soviet Union, where it got impacted (an experience I don’t recommend - antibiotics were basically available only on the black market in 1989, and when I was examined at what was supposed to be the “nice” dental clinic in Leningrad, I was told “yeah, those are wisdom teeth. Wash them with warm tea three times a day, and you’ll be fine.” I was not fine at all for a couple of weeks, and tea was available at that time only by ration coupons or on the black market.) My dentist got a good laugh about that story when I got home.

Fast-forward about 3 years; a wisdom tooth on the other side got impacted while I was on vacation in France (why it only happens when I’m half the planet away from my dentist, I have no idea). I had it, and the one opposite it on my lower jaw, removed when I got home. Apparently the 4th wisdom tooth never developed at all.

I had all 4 removed at the same time, on my lunch hour, then went back to work.
