I’m such a rule-follower that the thought of not stopping at a stop sign sends me into a tizzy. Of course I stop at them! If I didn’t, it would haunt me for weeks, I think.
I stop, and I have actively wished harm upon those who don’t.
I stop at every Sop, Yeld, or One vay sign.
Most of the time. I admit there’s a stop sign near my house that I roll through about 50% of the time in the mornings when I’m on my motorcycle. But other than that, I stop.
Hell, I’m actually responsible for getting a stop sign erected on my block (did the whole presentation in front of the city and everything), so I tend to take it pretty seriously.
I stop and sometimes actually enjoy thinking how close the person behind me came to buying themselves a new bumper or hood from hitting my oversize truck bumper.
I stop, but not always a complete and full stop (not rolling through, but not letting the car settle either)
No cop? No stop!
If I can see that I’m not going to be in conflict with cross/oncoming traffic I treat them as a sort of high-powered yield sign. I take them to mean, “Be really careful here or it’s going to be YOUR fault.” If there is other traffic, I’m stopping. And if the other guy has a stop sign I’m not getting in his path until I KNOW he’s stopping.
I’m sure there are plenty of folks who say, “That’s not good enough. The law is the law and you’re supposed to stop.” But I don’t believe traffic laws are made just to give cops something to do, they’re made to improve safety. Not stopping for something I know isn’t there isn’t nearly as unsafe as assuming that the other guy will be stopping for his stop sign.
And no, I’m not so far gone that I make left turns against the red arrow light even when there’s nobody else around.

I will admit that in certain places where there’s a lot of oncoming traffic sometimes, if I roll up to a stop sign to turn left and nobody is coming, I’ll just keep going while it’s clear. I picture myself uttering the phrase “It wasn’t getting any clearer” to the cop that pulls me over.
I’m a stopper, but apparently others in my area aren’t—I’ve been rear-ended (no damage) twice at the same intersection.
I rarely drive and don’t encounter Stop signs very often. But when I do, I always come to a complete stop.
Depends on the situation. I take most traffic signs as suggestions and will run a red light on a deserted street without remorse, but if there’s other cars around I follow the rules.
I stop. I’m just a little, as somebody upthread said, risk-averse. Also a little obsessive about rules sometimes.
I generally even stop at the yield sign at our corner.
Every single time. I cannot tell you how much it pisses me off when I stop and then a “roller” goes on through because he “got” there before I did, but he did not stop. If I dare to attempt to go before he does, I get a nasty honk or gesture. You don’t stop, you don’t get to go before I do, asshole!
Well now, the situation Hazle describes is wrong. I might blast through stops if there’s no one else around but not if there’s someone there.
Thanks, Bobo!
I always stop. Full stop. And at certain intersections, like the one a block from my home, I stop then roll forward and check again (since the damn hedges and parked cars make it hard to see on the right).
Why?

I don’t want to get hit/hit someone. Lots of times, some idiot without light ons (and I didn’t see until the last moment as a result…people, if you are in an asphalt colored car in the rain at dusk, TURN YOUR FUCKING LIGHTS ON! It’s not about YOU being able to see, but about others being able to see YOU! :smack:)

If there happens to be a cop watching, that’s a ticket I don’t need.
One of my pet peeves is people who don’t know the protocal for a 4-way stop…I will wait, granting the right of way, and they will hesitate, then I will start to go after it’s obvious they won’t, then THEY will start out, ARRRGGGGG!!!
I used to roll slow not stopping, until I met up with someone else that did the same thing…We almost met in the middle.
Fortunately they saw me.
Its funny how a full sized caddy can be hidden behind a rear view mirror…
I stop at stop signs ever since…and take a sec to look both ways.
I stop. It may be a quick stop in which the car doesn’t completely “settle,” but I stop. If there are hedges, fences, signs or anything else blocking my sightline, I stop, edge forward and stop again to check before I go, since I’m not willing to give another driver the benefit of the doubt that he or she is as attentive as I am.
