He is absolutely different than Muslim terrorists.

First off, he is much smarter than Muslim brothers.
Second, he did not cause the death of thousands.
Third, he has far more intellectual personality while compared to Muslim guys.

If there was sufficient amount of Breiviks, there would be peace in Middle East since all muslims would be annihilated.

Anyone who is from any Western country must admire, worship and praise him regardless of what it may cost. He is new prophet of Western World.

He murdered innocent people, including children. That’s always wrong. His desire for a “glorious” death in battle is pretty similar to the “martyrdom” that many Muslim terrorists seek. I think he’s the lowest scum, and/or has serious problems with his brain.

What’s “a sufficient number”? A hundred million? And do you think that, if western terrorists were running around killing Muslims, the remaining Muslims wouldn’t fight back? (Including those in South Asia and Southeast Asia.) This would not be the road to peace in the Middle East.

He didn’t even kill Muslims, so more of his type would only end up wiping out the population of Norway.

Or is this a DNFTT moment that I missed?

What makes you think this? Many Islamic terrorists are well educated. All of the pilots of September 11th were college educated. Mohammed Atta had a degree in architecture. Osama bin Laden had an engineering degree. The two men who tried to bomb Glasgow airport were a medical doctor and a PhD student in computational physics.

Breivik, as far as I can find had no education beyond high school.

Whatever it is, it is IMHO certainly not worth engaging. I’m going to be disappointed if this thread ends up running to hundreds of posts and cluttering up the front page of GD for weeks.

Actually even that overstates things.

He’s a high school dropout who gained much of his understanding of the world from Wikipedia.

As much as Wikipedia needs to be taken just as a place to start and not to just an end your searches, I will have to defend them a little here, in his infamous manifesto Breivik also reported that he did the killings because the believed that the environmentalist left was following the climate scientists that were involved on a conspiracy to fake human caused global warming, that is the so called Climategate, that has been investigated many times and the researchers exonerated many times already and the science validated (yes it is warming, and humans are a big reason why).

Wikipedia has been actually been accused (well, mostly it has been just whine and howling) by deniers of not letting them push their sorry ideas in the encyclopedia and if Breivik had actually relied on Wikipedia he would had learned already how unreliable the right wing sources, that he must had relied for information on that subject, really were and are.

This appears to be an effort to promote or show approval for genocide. That sort of thing, (actually, your entire post praising a murderous nutcase), comes across as an effort to simply rile people up.

I am stopping short of accusing you of trolling, but you would do well to tone it down quite a bit.

It’s weird that someone with a Turkish name would advocate genocide of Muslims.

I guess at this point I’m not surprised to see such views are considered acceptable here at the SDMB.

My post wasn’t to criticize wikipedia(though I obviously think it’s horribly misused and given far more validity than it deserves) but to show how Breivik portrayed himself

>
> Educated by Wikipedia and World of Warcraft, the Norway mass murderer developed his dangerous philosophy online
>
> OSLO, Norway — Anders Breivik, the Norwegian extremist behind the country’s worst-ever peacetime massacre, spent an entire year immersed in World of Warcraft, an online multi-player fantasy game.
>
> He claims to have used the Internet for 70 percent of what he said was 15,000 hours of self-study. And, on the second day of his trial, he admitted that the Knights Templar National and pan-European Patriotic Resistance Movement he claims to represent was “merely a few individuals,” a likely reference to like-minded people he met on Internet forums.
>
> The deaths of the 77 people Breivik massacred in Norway are sadly all too real. But the killer himself looks more and more like a product of the Internet. As prosecutors skillfully drew out details of Breivik’s failed life in the run-up to the attacks, it seemed that from 2006 — when he wound up his business selling fake diplomas and moved in with his mother — Breivik had retreated into an online world.
>
> In the Internet network of anti-Islamic “ultra-nationalists,” he became the vanguard of the resistance, a martyr and patriotic hero. In World of Warcraft, meanwhile, he was a Justicar Knight, one of the highest levels a web warrior can attain.
>
> “I think this case is resting on unexplored areas,” Randi Rosenqvist, a prominent Norwegian psychiatrist, argued before the trial, suggesting Breivik had succumbed to an Internet version of the group thinking which had, for example, convinced members of post-World War II Germany’s Baader Meinhof gang that it was right to murder political opponents.
>
> “We know about different religious sects, and we know about different political associations, but what about a single man thinking the same things as an organization thinks?” Rosenqvist asked.
>
> “These Internet groups, they are groups in the same way, but previously you had to be in the same place. There is very little academic psychiatry on these types of questions.”
>
> When Breivik engaged in off-line politics, the court heard, he quickly found others recoiling at his extreme views.
>
> “My proposals were slaughtered, so to speak,” he said, of his unsuccessful involvement Norway’s anti-immigration Progress Party, for which he came a lowly 37th in the list of nominees for a seat on Oslo City Council.
>
> “They sold out on so many principles in order to get into power, that I thought they had thrown out the baby with the bathwater.”
>
> But online, he could follow the writings of anti-Islamic extremists with the exact same ideas, developing an extreme doctrine which perhaps more face-to-face meetings would have moderated.
>
> Breivik’s strange view of European history since World War II, which sees a liberal, Marxist elite taking control and secretly allowing a Muslim incursion, similarly bears the hallmarks of an Internet autodidact.
>
> \*\*Asked by the judge what the main source was for his worldview? His answer was simple: “Wikipedia.”
>
> “I have used Wikipedia the most. The English articles are incredibly rich in information,” he said.\*\*
>
> Breivik, a high-school dropout, said the Internet had allowed him to make up for his lack of formal higher education. The Internet, he argued, had opened access to knowledge, so people no longer needed libraries or universities. He added, with unintentionally comic earnestness, that this had yet to be properly “recognized,” forcing him to cite the 15,000 hours of self-study to underline his credentials.

(bolding mine)

Now I don’t think that wikipedia was anymore responsible for him murdering 77 people in Norway than the Quran or various\* ahadith\* were responsible for the destruction of the Twin Towers but there’s no question that Muhammad Atta saw himself as being inspired by and guided by them.

Similarly, Breivik said that of wikipedia, though like Atta, he was quite selective on what he chose to support and what he chose to ignore.

How can the calling for genocide not be viewed as trolling?

Would it be considered acceptable for someone to make a thread advocating the firebombing of Jewish elementary schools throughout the country or calling for the mass lynchings of “uppity niggers”?

Well, really, whats the difference? We are exposed to these insane notions as it is, yes? Whether these ideas are reported second-hand, or presented by someone who claims to believe them, we exposed to the same mind virus hazard. It is my opinion that resistance to mind viruses increases with exposure.
