And no way are they going to keep any sort of boat from moving. I would need ten or fifteen tied together just to keep my yacht from floating away.
Approximately 100% pay taxes. They do not all pay 100% of their legally defined tax bill, but they ALL pay.
It’s practically impossible to avoid paying into sales taxes and local property taxes, since we all have to buy things and live somewhere. Many illegals use a false SS number with their employer, thus get taxes and SS taken out. They can’t ever withdraw from SS, nor can they get the tax refund they likely qualify for, these folks overpay taxes. Given that Federal and State income taxes are extremely low for low income families, even if a family is totally underground, they are not underpaying those taxes by a significant dollar amount.
I also call bullshit on the idea that there are just some jobs that Americans won’t do, as if we’re all lah-di-dah simply because we’re Americans and we don’t *do *laundry, dahling. Watch Dirty Jobs sometime to disabuse you of that notion.
As was said above, Americans won’t do those jobs at those wages. If employment laws were actually enforced in this country, there’d be a market for those jobs at reasonable wages. But everyone wants to shop at Walmart and get their TV for $50, so it’s the only way to stay competitive.
It’s a really big problem, and there just aren’t any simplistic solutions. Sorry about that.
You mean that back in the 1950’s, and before, none of those jobs got done? We had no crops in America back then? Americans ate nothing? Nobody cut grass? Nobody fixed a roof? Amazing!
10s of millions of “Americans” are caught speeding every year. That’s a crime, and a pretty serious one. (some would say worse than entering the country without proper papers). Should we cut off all education, health care, and welfare to those people who have intentionally violated our laws?
Anyone else not shocked by the OP’s join date?
We had just as many illegal immigrants in 1950 as we do now, relative to the size of the US population- about 6 million.
Closing thread. If you wish to reopen it again in Great Debates you may do so, but without the poll option.
