I don’t know. I still hear the “gateway drug” argument being used. For example, when Seattle’s citizens passed a ballot measure to make marijuana prosecutions the lowest possible police priority. I’m impressed that it passed, but the fact is Seattle’s police are still making arrests. WA also has a medicinal use provision, which the Fed. Gov’t. has been fighting in various ways.
I’m only a bit younger than you; maybe when more people of our generation are actually in charge, we’ll see some changes. The Baby Boomers still have the “evil gateway drug” nonsense burned into their consciousness, as far as I can tell.
Along with this, if a simple question like “What is your middle name?” produces hysterical laughter whilst explaining why your middle name is handed down through the generations of your family. . .they’re probably baked.
To address the OP: I hope so! I used to enjoy marijuana use occasionally when I was young. Now my husband is a federal employee. There are a lot of positions he would like to interview for that would require top security clearance. If I were caught with an illegal substance like marijuana, and convicted of possession of same, it could have long-range impact on his career. For this reason, I would not use marijuana now. If it were legal, though. . .
