It’s an online forum where you don’t have to fail a spelling and grammar test in order to feel as if you’re allowed to post. That’s rare enough that I’d think fondly of the place even if for no other reason.
re: Post Counts
I’m totally bumbling all over my opinion on this. I think my point is simply that for me my SD reading experience goes pretty much as follows:
-
Scan the titles…click on what seems interesting - I hardly ever look at a thread because a certain poster started it (unless it is in the pit and a continuation of something and I recognize that).
-
Read the thread. Laugh accordingly. Smile accordingly. Nod in agreement accordingly. For the majority of my reading experience, I do not look at the poster’s name but just read the post.
-
If it’s an off-the-wall OP or post, I definitely will glance over at the poster name. By off-the-wall, I mean something even a little controversial (but not over the top and coming from an obvious troll). I think I do this more to gauge whether or not the poster is genuine if it’s kind of a wacky question/post or even oh…that’s NOT so strange because it’s coming from so-and-so, who asks a lot of these types of questions…etc. I suppose I mean just to be able to put it in context.
-
If someone writes a particularly funny response, I’ll glance at the poster name. For instance, Mhendo has a funny sig line about crashing in the Andes and having to eat his co-pilot, God. I can never remember that it’s Mhendo that has that sig line (except now I will because I just cited it), so I always look at his/her name because I want to know who is that poster with the funny sig line!
Anyway, sorry if I’m just butchering my point even more but I tried!
P.S.
I just want to add that I know earlier in the thread I said I always look at the poster and post count. I actually thought about it to a greater extent and the above is more accurate.
