Do you think "road rage" will be cured in our lifetime?

Hey, I bathe once a year whether I need it or not.

I disagree. Road rage has been around for thousands of years.

  • In some of the Sherlock Holmes stories they talk about incidents between horse-driven cabs on the streets of London.
  • I remember reading about incidents in France just before the Revolution.
  • I remember reading of fights between chariot driver on the cobbled streets of ancient Rome.

I doubt that this is going to go away anytime soon.

My money’s on zombie plague. The really sad part is that drivers are so bad, you can’t tell if it’s a zombie behind the wheel or not.

This article suggests the history of road rage goes back to the 19th century.

If there is any validity to Susanann’s theory, then it shouldn’t be hard to find corroboration. For instance, a state with a high population density, like NJ, should have a higher per capita incidence than a state with a low density, like Arizona. Or for that matter, countries with a higher population density than the U.S. should have more road rage.

I could pull a couple of suggestions about road rage out of my ass that are as plausible as Susanann’s.

  1. Interstate Highway System. They started that in the fifties. Driving on a crowded freeway is stressful, especially when you try to merge or exit.

  2. Doctor Spock. When you are dealing with a generation of children that didn’t get spanked when they had a temper tantrum are we shocked that we end up with millions of adults with anger management issues? It isn’t just road rage, it is flying rage or checkout line rage or school rage.
