[Here’s a link to a story making the rounds on Facebook today](http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/10/24/1250435/-Couple-takes-time-to-lecture-Gay-Waiter-Refuse-tip#) I’m suspicious about the authenticity of this letter. The language in the letter is just so over the top. It seems like every week we read one of these stories and the offended person ends up receiving donations. I hope I’m wrong. ---

“We hope you will see the tip your (homosexual slur) choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly.” Huh? And do incoherent super-Godly people really eat at Carrabba’s? They sound like more the Bob Evans type. The really over-the-top part is the red-state Kansas must-get-out-and-vote crapola. ---

So how did this couple know the waiter was gay? Did he make out with another man while serving them? Does this restaurant require your sexual orientation on your nametag? “Hi, I’m Tom and I’ll be your gay server this evening.” ---

Could be, though it says it was on a credit card receipt. If I were going to do a fake, I’d do it on the receipt of someone that paid cash, since there’d be less chance of someone questioning the couple and discovering the lie. ---

It could be that the topic simply came up in conversation between the waiter and the customers. Personally speaking, I lean towards it being a hoax too, but there’s a reasonably possible way that it could have happened. ---

It _could_ be a hoax, but it’s no more over-the-top than some of the things I read about on [Not Always Right](http://notalwaysright.com/). ---

If this was true, I feel it was hypocritical of the couple to allow a supposedly gay person to serve them their meal but then decide they didn’t have to tip him for that service because he was gay. ---

Cheap people using God as an excuse to stiff (har, har) someone. That I can easily believe. That they would bother to write a note about it makes it seem like a hoax. ---

I can’t really declare an opinion as to whether this story is true or false. I believe it’s possible that somebody would be a big enough dick to write such a note and I believe it’s possible that somebody would be a big enough dick to fake such a note. ---

It didn’t strike me as an obvious hoax. My first thought was the Westboro Baptist Church, whose propaganda pretty much ALWAYS sounds like that. I figured that a couple of those crazy bastards decided to take a break from picketing a military funeral or something to enjoy some casual Italian dining at affordable prices.
