Do you tip hotel maids?

Maybe this depends on company policy, like at restaurants. I don’t know what happens to my tip at a restaurant when the shift changes after I’ve been served.

I prefer leaving a lump sum tip at hotels to avoid confusion about whether the money out was just left by mistake or whether it’s a tip. I guess I tip hotel maids because my mom was once a motel maid when I was a kid. I also tip at restaurants because I’ve been a waitress (briefly  ) & know how hard that job is.

I tip less at extended stay hotels where there is limited housecleaning. They do full cleaning once a week, & “freshen ups” a couple of other times a week. I’m also like ** throatshot ** in that I’m a neat freak at hotels. I don’t even leave toiletries out.
