I doubt anyone turns off the modem/router/WiFi AP (or equivalent stack) any more. Power savings are negligible, and itās not the old days where leaving a modem on might have led to extra connection charges.
Maybe some in the super-green spectrum or worried about continual NSA surveillance. š

I used to shut down my iMac when I was done with my work, now I simply turn off the WIFI connection in the menu bar and leave the computer running. Too much bother to restart the computer every time I need to use it.

I leave everything running all the time. My only concession is that I close the lid of the laptop when I walk away, to minimize keyboard dust.

I donāt have an internet of my own, but I do leave our connection on constantly. If Iām going to be away for more than 24 hours I do shut down the desktop (I am a technological dinosaur) but the laptop is usually just closed and in a sleep mode.
If I notice connectivity issues my first move is to restart both the modem and teh router.

one of the things I love about my chromebook is you close it and walk away and when you open it again itās right where you were - no need to āloadā you are ready to internet surf!
but the wifi I donāt even know how to turn off. I have unplugged things (there are 4) but I donāt know if I need to.
I still donāt!

Do you mean turn off your router or the devices connected to it? I donāt turn any of them off unless I need to restart them. I have never heard of anyone routinely shutting off their router. My main computer is connected to my large-screen TV and always ready to go. My tablet and iPhone need to be able to connect on demand. I have no idea how much it costs to keep them all on all the time but it canāt be more than a few dollars a month.

Iāve got an RJ-45 on-off switch, but, in all honesty, Iām too damn lazy to use it, so my connection is active all the time, and my PC is pretty much always running in āsleepā mode.
(One excuse is that Iām on Windows 10, and Office 365, so I want those updates. Also I have an online backup service, and I want that to be current also. My computer is so cool, itās working for me even when Iām not here!)

Not since the dialup days. Itās not a good idea to make your modem have to retrain every time. Thereās a reason they donāt have off switches.

Until about 2 years ago I was on dial-up. :smack:
Now I usually turn the AirPorts off and shut everything down if Iām going to be away more than a couple days. No need to as far as I know; just my habit.

My router stays on. Iāve had to reboot it a few times to fix connectivity problems. Unplug, wait 5 mins, plug back in.
PCās and my laptop are turned off when Iām not using them.
