Do you use a sound machine as a sleep aid?

I have a Wind Machine (floor fan) on high, and my air conditioner on high (fan). In the Summer the same thing, except the A/C is set to high (cool). Both times I have the fan pointed away from me.

Also, I keep the bedroom really cold with the window open at least 4 inches, even on the coldest nights. Then I snuggle under my puffy down comforter, and I cover my poor doggy with a blanket. We both sleep well.

The neighbors have little yappy dogs, so I have a Dohm noise machine. It works wonders at drowning out the little miserable wretches (unfortunately it does not actually drown them).

The Mrs. and I use a K-Mart fan purchased in 1976 as our sound machine at night.

I hated the repetitive, “canned” sound effects. The thunderstorm/rainstorm/forest sounds were realistic- but after a few minutes one realizes it’s the SAME dang recorded clip just repeating itself- and that was distracting.

A fan, humidifier or other similar type device is required for me to get to sleep. Mosquitoes HATE moving air so it does double duty. Lacking a fan, wearing earbuds/headphones playing an audio book or program can be really helpful. Bible scripture puts me right to sleep with the monotonous drone voices playing.

I bought a clock radio once that had some sound options
I began to cycle through them

Thunderstorm
Ocean Waves
Spring rainstorm
Babbling Brook

Really??? I want something that will help me sleep, not something that will make me have to get up and head to the bathroom every 90 minutes

It’s not exactly a “sound machine,” but I use ASMR videos on YouTube. They’re usually 30-45 minutes long, but I’ve never lasted more than 15 minutes into one.
