I’m not sure why a beverage store was called a beer dock but they were and still are today. When I search for the term I get only places in Ohio. Is it a regional thing? ---

Never heard the term, and I grew up in Ohio (wasn’t buying beer at the time, though). ---

I also grew up and went to college in ohio. Never heard the term before just now. Though I left forever in 2001. ---

Might have been genericized. From some cursory searching, looks like they were originally ascribed to drive-thru retail sales, so drivers would come in to ‘dock’ to get their beverage of choice, but still, mostly seeing the term in oHIo, especially 1980s. ---

Never heard it. Closest I ever lived to Ohio was Missouri mid 90s to mid 20-teens. Now _if_ there was a place on a lake where boats could pull up, tie off, and buy beer etc., that would totally be called a “beer dock”. Just like the “gas dock” or “fuel dock” that would probably be nearby. But I’ve lived on lakes and boated on lakes and … in several states and I’ve never seen a freestanding thing like that. The one found in nearly every marina in the land is just the “marina liquor store”, “marina beer store”, or just “marina store”. ---

Where I live ([not Sesame Street](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/does-sesame-street-have-a-liquor-store/1001764)) they are called package stores. Never heard beer dock before. ---

I grew up in Ohio in the 80s, with parents who grew up in Ohio in the 50s, and never heard beer dock. Beverage store, yes. Deer bock? Also no. ---

I believe “Beer Docks” is a super-regional term solely in the Columbus, OH area. ---

Don’t think I’ve ever heard it. I’ve also never lived in Ohio. I’ve driven through it, but I wasn’t looking for beer at the time. ---

What’s round at the ends, and high in the middle? Suburban Chicago here and have never before today heard of a beer dock. I have driven through Ohio a few times, and even spent a weekend partying at Nelson Ledges, so I’m qualified to speak on things Ohio. (Ohio has the best I-80 rest stops.) ---
