Hardly ever, but that’s due to conflicting work schedules and not personal preference.

Two days out of eight we go to bed at the same time, usually. I work a standard work week and like to be in bed at 9 so I can read for 30 to 45 minutes. He works two days, two nights, then has four days off, so only during his two days do we go to bed at the same time.

I enjoy going to bed by myself. I fall asleep better.

For the past several years, my husband worked a super-early schedule, getting up around 4. I work from home and am a night owl, so I often crept into bed shortly before he woke up. When he started that schedule, I was really worried it would be a strain on our marriage, but in fact it was great: I could focus on hanging out with him when he was home and awake, knowing that I would have hours to work uninterrupted while he was asleep. We would usually cuddle in bed for half an hour or so when he went to sleep, then I would get up and get on with my night.

In the last month, he’s started a new job where he works a lot of mids and night shifts, getting home anywhere from 10pm to 4am. I was a bit worried that the new schedule would be a strain, but now we can to bed together (which is really nice) and I still have some good night-time working hours to be productive.

TLDR: we’ve done it both ways and so far it’s always seemed to work out for us.

Mrs. Homie has a fit if I’m not ready to go to bed when she does. But if I want to go to bed and she’s not ready…

Sometimes I’ll stay up a bit later on weekends. But usually, we are in bed about the same time. Either reading and or watching the tube.

Well, once she goes to bed, I have to climb out of the tree, clean the binoculars, and drive home. That takes a good half hour at least.

Almost always we go to bed at the same time. The only time we don’t is if one of us doesn’t have to get up early the next morning; like if I have the day off I’ll stay up later.

Nope. He goes upstairs usually 7:30 or 8:00 - the very latest 9:00. I go to bed around 10:30 or 11:00 and then he comes down and sleeps on the couch (he has to have the TV on all the time and he snores - I need total blackout and quiet) but he also gets up around 4:00 in the morning, I usually don’t get up until 7:00 or later during the weekday.

We did for the first 9.5 years we lived together, then we had a baby. Now I go to bed early with her so I can get up at 5 for work, and he stays up later since 9 or so is a ridiculous time to go to bed. He then does baby wrangling if she wakes up in between me leaving for work and the babysitter’s arrival.
It’s wonderful that we’re able to only have the Munchkin with a babysitter in the late morning/ early afternoon, but I really miss going to bed at the same time as my husband. On weekends we try to go to bed at the same time unless I conk out trying to get the baby to sleep.

No, I wish we did but often my wife is sleepy at 9:00 or 10:00 and I’m usually not until midnight or so.

If I had my way, I would stay up surfing the net, watching tv, reading, etc…but my wife usually insists (and rightly so) that I go to bed with her as the kids are up early and I start work at 7:00am sharp.
Besides, I am known to fall asleep in my chair or on the couch, and she doesn’t want to hear me complain about my sore back or stiff neck the following day!😃

I voted _Always_, but on very rare occasions (less than once a month) **Suburban Plankton** has to be up very late rebooting some server or something at an ungodly hour and I go to bed without him. Or if one of us is sick. We don’t always turn out lights off and go to sleep at the exact same time. Sometimes one of reads a bit longer than the other, but we are in bed together at the same time.

For several years (many years ago) we didn’t, when I had to be at work at 5am. I would go to bed 8:30-9, and he would come to bed whenever. Even then we went to bed at the same time on weekend and vacations.

I am surprised to see so many don’t go to bed at the same time as their partners. I had no idea.

Almost always. I would miss the togetherness if we didn’t. It is a nice time of the day.

You know, I never used to - with my ex he’d go to bed whenever he wanted but if I stayed up “too late” he’d come and whine at me, and with my fiance now I started going to be later than he did but I eventually ended up creepy my bedtime nearer to his so now I go to bed at 10 and wake up at 6 like an old person.

In fact, now I go running three times a week with a friend who picks me up at 6:10 in the fucking morning. So I wake up BEFORE him. This early riser thing is _weird_, y’all. I’ve been a night owl all my life and it is seriously disconcerting to be completely incapable of sleeping in past 9 or so.

We used to, until we had kids. Now she goes to bed with Beta-chan, and I go to bed later. I preferred going to bed at the same time.

It’s odd that the poll assumes that _I_ am the one staying up. Whenever one of us stays up, it’s him - usually because he’s watching the MotoGP or the F1. Usually he comes to bed an hour or so later, although if he’s had a few toots he’ll probably just fall asleep on the sofa.

Just last week he stayed up to watch a race. Sometime at dawn I half awoke and sleepily opened one eye, expecting to see him next to me. Instead I was eye to eye with the cat, who KNOWS she’s not supposed to be in the bedroom - but the opportunity must have been too good to pass up for her.
