Doctor: 4 Killings Because He Was Fired as Medical Resident

Probably because ‘omg bad stuff never happens in nice neighborhoods and that’s all this town is known for anyway’ or something.

There was a task force assigned to the case after the second set of murders. To paraphrase the police chief, they pored over files looking for someone who might have a beef with both doctors, finally finding Garcia. Further inquiry revealed that he’d been back to Nebraska in the timeframes of both killings and that he had bought a pistol at Gander Mountain of the same type used in the murder of Dr. Brumback. They weren’t ready to make an arrest yet, but his movements this week led them to believe that he might be gearing up for some further violence.

Pretty much. Dundee is kind of an odd neighborhood. Most of the Omaha mega-rich live in the suburbs; Dundee is a mix of old money and well-off Bohemian-types. It sports some nice houses, but it’s not what you would call “ritzy” per se; it’s kind of like a Nebraskan Greenwich Village, I guess. Linking it to Buffett is kind of like reporting a story on a murder in Montana “just a couple miles from Ted Turner’s ranch.” It immediately conveys a sense of geography that most Omaha viewers can relate to.

Edit window expired before I could point out that Dundee had just experienced a wave of muggings around the time of the 2008 killings. That probably made the initial investigation kind of ambiguous; I doubt that police were looking at for a guy from seven years prior with a grudge at the time.

An interesting article about the investigation:
