Doctors who "wash out".

Actually, choosing a specialty is a very personal thing. Just because a specialty is “prestigious” or lucrative doesn’t mean you will enjoy it. I tell my students it’s a question mostly of pacing. If you think “how can you sit and talk over the same problems over and over again-lets DO something about it” then you will be happier in surgery. If, on the other hand, you think “let’s quit rushing around and sit down and look at the whole picture and try to figure out what’s wrong and how best to treat it” then you should be in medicine. If you thrive on sudden bursts of adrenaline, then Anesthesiology or Emergency Medicine might be right for you.

Give it to the patient.

in my year, all we know is that none of us want to work in heamatology.

they make us little students do all the scut work and hang around til late because they don’t have enough interns.

at the moment i’m thinking OB/Gyn.
not enough women do it, and it’s fairly people-interactive.
