# Does a duck's quack echo?

[Finally,](http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3086890.stm) someone else was man enough to take on some scientific investigation.
Only five years after Cecil and his intrepid researcher Jane[dispelled the myth](http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a5_071.html) in East Lansing.
Seems that the world of mainstream scientific research is closing the Straight Dope Gap. You never know, soon they might actually prove things BEFORE Cecil…

Quite why it took this kind of scientific study I have no idea. Go to my local lake any still winter day and you will here duck’s quacks echoing with no problem at all. Maybe I should take a tape recorder down there one day, convert the sound file to an MP3 and put it up on a website.

And yet, it leaves a kind of eerie silence when you whack a duck with a 1920s style death ray. Just fyi.
