Does anyone else find HD, eh, disracting?

I used to catch the beginning of a show that came on after a show I was watching. I have no idea what this show is or even who is in it. I would watch the opening scene because it took place in a restaurant, and one of the extras was extremely attractive.

Yes, i find HD distracting. A couple of thoughts. You pay all that money and you have to get used to it? The higher the resolution, the lower your imagination. Old movies are nicer to look at than new ones. All this is true. Don’t take a bat to it yet. I noticed a couple of sets where an old BW western was on. Yes, you are right. I couldn’t believe it looked like a soap opera. Here’s the logic. I worked on a soap, so i have some insight. Part of the reason that a soap opera looks like it does is that the cameras are strange creatures, and the video men are more strange. If you google a thing called “Gamma”, it will explain the relationship between what comes into the lens and what actually ends up being displayed. Well TVs have gamma too. If they’re not set right, they make beautifully photographed pictures look like shit. This is something most people really don’t give a crap about. You spotted it, so you should nose around and see what you can find. The problem is fixable, but i’m not familiar w/ all the nuances of adjusting HD TVs. I can tell you that the setup should be gone over and please tell me how you do w/ it. I’m interested in all these annoying things. Thanks…a

Seeing as I’m about three years behind, technology wise, I suspect this subject has already been discussed, What can I say, my TV is a 300 lb. crt deal and I still have a flip phone.

You’re a lot more than 3 years behind…

Yep. I bought my first HDTV in time to watch The Masters (golf tournament) and we were amazed that you could see individual grains of sands in the bunkers. And Augusta is just amazingly beautiful in the spring, with the flora reflecting in the ponds.

Since the crematorium ashes have rained down upon Resurrection Cemetery, I’ll go ahead and correct this. It’s actually a 46" TV.

QFT. Everybody thought HD would be a natural fit for pornos, but when you can see every zit, bruise, and stretch-mark, it is not quite as appealing. Don’t get me wrong–it gets the job done–but the technology does not help it at all.

Oh please, bluray looks better than DVD even on an SD set. Unless maybe you’re using a set made in the 70’s or earlier, in which case nothing would look good on that.

I hate to tell you this, but old movies were filmed on film… which have a higher resolution than current HD TV’s. So the old movies in theaters were arguably even more sharp than HD.
