One of the dorkiest expressions that people use is the term ‘anyhoo’. Every time I hear it I cringe and shake my head silently for the poor guy who thinks it fits. I just returned from lunch with a guy who used it regularly and by the end of lunch I was going nuts. Does anyone else hate this seemingly innocuous term? What terms drive you nuts? ---

For me, it seems like the most annoying people in the world have a tendency to use that term (not including you wonderful SDMB’ers that do, of course 😉 ), so I have terrible associations with it. Isn’t that one of Ned Flanders’s terms that he loves to use? To me, it’s overly cutesy and unneccesary. ---

A lot of the Simpsons characters use it. I kind of like it for just that reason. Whenever I use it, in my mind I hear Homer saying it. ---

It seems like one of those phrases that people only use at work. I’ve never hung out with anyone who used the phrase in a social setting. It makes me cringe. Another phrase that gets me is “Have a good one.” Argh! I don’t know why it bugs me so much, except that it seems to be another phrase that people only use in an office setting. ---

I hate it! My brother says it, but I think it the sense that it is meant to be funny. Well, even if so, that only works once. I am glad the Simpsons were mentioned, as that must be the source of this habit in brother. Hmm! Still, I quite like “The Simpsons” when I see them so I don’t watn them banned. Qh the problems of life! ☹ Is there a cure? Shall we find one? ---

I never really saw it till one day reading a reply here - it was just there by itself on it’s own line. THere was text above and below but this was seperated. Anyhoo I guess I sort of caught onto it. ---

Hmmm. sounds like something **agisofia** would do. I use the word anyhoo a lot in e-mails, but not in everyday conversation. ---

Man, now I feel like a real jack ass. I’ve been spelling it “AnyWHO” all this time. I use it a bit in emails, but mainly because I pretty much start all my secondary paragraphs with “Anyhow,” sometimes, I just feel bad for using the same openning everytime over. So “anyhoo/anywho” isn’t all that bad. “What’s the dealio,” though, I do hate. Yo. ---

The word “anyhoo” should be stricken from every tablet and monument… stricken from…every book and text… stricken from…the entire land of Egypt. The word “anyhoop,” on the other hand, I use in almost every Email I write! 😉 ---

I am guilty of using the word “anyhoo” mostly in writing, but sometimes in conversation. I realize it is terrible. I have a bad habit of using a word to make fun of people who use it, and then ending up adopting it myself. When my friends and I went off to college, one of our girlfriends left the east coast and went to UCLA, and came back using “dude” in conversation. Needless to say, we began mocking her endlessly … until we forgot we were mocking, and just kept saying it. It was possible to forgive us, in a vague sort of way, when we were college sophomores. However, there is nothing more pathetic than a group of 30-something women getting together for lunch, and starting every other sentence with “hey dude, do you want to share a shrimp cocktail?” Just shoot me now, really. ---
