> There are 7.5 billion people on Earth. Should every nation feel on obligation to feed, house, educate, and provide medical care for any subset of that 7.5 billion that can cross the border? Seems like discrimination against the less mobile.

I can’t parse the underlined. Could you rephrase?

But, to the point that the less mobile would have a harder time getting here, I agree, that’s why I think we should set up immigration centers all over the world. Come in, apply, convince us that you want to leave this poor life behind and come to the united states to make a better life for yourself and family, and we will ship you right on over to our mainland to begin living the american dream.

Go ahead and put them in war zones, let belligerents know what happens if the centers are fired upon, even accidently. Take in all the refugees who are trapped by the violence. You know how grateful people are to you when you save them, well, they are even more grateful when you save their family. We have the potential to add tens of thousands, maybe tens of millions of well educated hard working people, who will love the US and be far more patriotic than your average US born citizen, whose only crime is living in a crap place that people are fighting over.

You are quick to demand nuance when the target is a subject you like.

Anyways. Your immigration idea is interesting. Would there be an annual cap? A regional cap? Perhaps the US is in the position to do such a thing. Can you see why most nations couldn’t emulate the idea?

So it’s okay then for homeless people to sneak into your home when you’re not looking and take your stuff, because you have it and they don’t and you should be willing to ‘share’?

(And spare me the hyperbole about illegal immigrants starving and dying if they can’t come here. They come here for a more material life, not because they’re going to die if they don’t.)

> You are quick to demand nuance when the target is a subject you like.

I always like nuance. Almost nothing is ever as simple as it appears at first glance. Everything has nuance.

If I have denied nuanced positions of others, I apologize, and if you can point me to that oversight, I would be happy to take another look to see what I missed.

Part of it is that many do not explain the nuance, and just assume that those who have not shared their life experiences will get the same nuance as they do, and so leave that part out, only to later try to explain that that wasn’t what they meant, that it was more complicated.

This is a defense that I will happily listen to, if I have overgeneralized someone’s position based on an imperfect delivery, as I know that I myself am incapable of a perfect delivery of my thoughts and positions.

This is why I ask questions, to probe at, and to try to find those particulars that would help me to better understand a position. But, in doing so, I am often treated to a doubling down effect, where the position that I am assuming that I am misunderstanding that they are taking is the position that they insist that, yes, they are in fact taking that.

> [@](#):

> Anyways. Your immigration idea is interesting. Would there be an annual cap? A regional cap? Perhaps the US is in the position to do such a thing. Can you see why most nations couldn’t emulate the idea?

I can see why most can’t be nearly as generous as the US is in a position to be. That’s why I think that the US should take the leadership position. Caps, maybe. I am sure there are some practical realities that get run into before we get to be able to take everybody all at once, but I don’t see why they cannot b generous enough that there should be little or no waiting list. Triage for the world would put those countries in most ruin at the top of the list, not the bottom.

Get all the civilians that want to go out of syria, for instance, and then let a bunch of asshole fight over some sand. No humanitarian crisis going on anymore, and I really don’t care what they do to each other. They may not even stay. They may get a job, get an education, get healthy, then go back to their home country to work to improve it once the fighting has ended, and I respect that goal as well.

> I don’t know what the optimal solution is. Maybe expedited citizenship for those here now and a huge fine on employers in the future as a disincentive. Who knows? But to demonize those who think encouraging illegal immigration is wrong is not very productive.

I’m of the opinion we should aggressively hunt down illegal aliens, and then arrest every single person in their employment chain of command, from their supervisor to their boss to the company head. Charge them with felonious conspiracy to break immigration law and throw them behind bars. Then take the illegal and dump them unceremoniously on the other side of the Canadian border.

Aggressive, yes, but it would be an entertaining to watch large chunks of the agricultural industry self-destruct. That alone justifies it.

If we’re feeling generous, we could provide a grace period where any employer could submit an application, along with proof of employment, to have their employee and their family fasttracked through the naturalization process. In this manner the employers could keep their employees. When the grace period ends - BOOM. Lawbreaking employers behind bars.

How am I vilifying you? I am only responding to your statements. If your statements are not your own view, then any objection I have is to those who hold that view, not to those who explain it. I apologize if you took exception to me using you as the example of someone I wanted to keep out in that hypothetical, but that was only because you were the one I was interacting with. If they knew he was a sex criminal and looked the other way while taking checks, yes I am bothered by that.

That shows we have a serious cultural problem. The fact that lots of people knew about Bill Cosby and nobody did anything shows we have issues in our culture and legal system that make it hard to speak out. Those issues need to be fixed.

But here is the difference.

Here are a list of all the women who have accused Donald Trump of sex crimes.

> **[Donald Trump sexual misconduct allegations](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump_sexual_misconduct_allegations)**
>
> Donald Trump, the president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, has been accused of rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment, including non-consensual kissing or groping, by at least 25 women since the 1970s. In June 2019, writer E. Jean Carroll alleged in New York magazine that Trump raped her in a department store dressing room in 1995 or 1996. Two friends of Carroll stated that Carroll had previously confided in them about the incident. Trump called the allegation fiction and deni...

Here is Donald Trump threatening to harm those women, and the audience applauding while he threatens his victims.

Why aren't you bothered by this?

And more importantly, why aren’t you bothered that you and 63 million other people voted for this man after he did all this? All of this occurred before he was president.

Harvey Weinstein has lost his business. His career is over, and he is being investigated by law enforcement. As well he should.

You voted Donald Trump for president.

Why do you not understand that you have no credibility to criticize people on this issue? Why do you not understand that by voting for Trump you have permanently destroyed your credibility on a wide range of issues, including your ability to claim the moral high ground on sex crimes?

As I said earlier, if Democrats elect Harvey Weinstein president and applaud while he threatens his victims, maybe you’ll have a point. That didn’t happen. Democrats didn’t do that. People like you do things like that. Because people like you did that, you don’t have any authority to pretend to have the moral high ground. When you stop electing people who threaten rape victims, maybe we will listen as you pretend to have the moral high ground.
