worst invention ever. I assume they use the same crap design outside the US? It is open in the back. I had one that was good , it had an extra sleeve hole so it would stay on. ---

Crikey, no! Hideous! I was in a hospital once, and was using one hand to hold the back closed, so I wouldn’t moon the whole ward. Y’know what? I was doing it wrong. I thought I was holding it closed…but I was holding it OPEN! Oh, gawd, the embarrassment! I hate those things with the fiery passion of exploding suns! The little slipper/socks with rubber non-skid nubbins…those are quite nice! ---

I’ve only worn them for inpatient operations, but mostly awful. How are you supposed to tie the belt behind your back again? And struggle too hard and you’ll rip it. And I’m thin. I imagine they’re even worse when you don’t have as much gown overlap as I do. ---

No. Bad memories. Long story short: Got discharged from the hospital with only one of them and a pair of leather gloves. Literally. Buck-Ass naked under the ‘gown’ and a pair of leather gloves. ---

I didn’t mind them in my recent stay for a knee replacement. I have a bladder such that if I wake up I usually have to pee a bit right away. And with one knee that wouldn’t bend yet, the bathroom was out. I was naked as a jay bird under the gown and could use the plastic urinal very easily without getting up. I did put on pants for the therapy sessions. ---

In my (Canadian) experience, I haven’t seen the “bare ass swinging in the breeze” type of hospital gown for years. Every time I was in the hospital, I always seemed to get stuck with ones that were a size too big. And in the front pocket they had to put the portable heart monitor thing, and that would make the entire front of the gown hang down as well. And they’re hard to change due to the wires and stuff. Always had to have a nurse help me chance into a fresh one. ---

Hate them, I suppose there’s a purpose to have the back-end open since if you’re in a hospital chances are you can’t wipe your own ass so some one else has to do it for you and the nurses need unfettered access. With that said, I still hate them and wear two if I can. One the way it was designed and the other backwards so my ass isn’t catching some air. ---

We nurses are perfectly happy for you to do that. It is a small subgroup of patients who need that open-air access for hygiene assistance and they are usually bed bound so it ends up not being an issue.
