# Does hair grow slower in the cold?

I came upon this a while ago reading a book. I think it was _Jack and Jill_ by James Patterson. Anyway, one of the caracters briefly mentions that his parents are so cheap that they leave the windows open in the winter so their hair won’t grow (hence, they won’t need to spend money on haircuts).
Is there any truth in this?

My barber once mentioned to me that hair grows faster in summer if you spend much time outdoors, apparently due to stimulation of your scalp. [This hair site](http://www.hair-styles.org/hair-grow-faster.html) says so too.

I read this in some magazine a while back, probably Allure. It seems our hair grows more slowly in winter, faster in summer. Sorry I can’t do any better on the cite, I was focusing on how cruel it was my leg hair would grow more quickly precisely when I wanted to be rid of it the most.

My beard grows very little or not at all when I spend the day in very cold temperatures.
