# Does my user name font suck?

I was recently chastised for my user name font and since I am new here I thought I would ask:
A. Does my user name font offend?
B. Does it appear as “blanks and squiggles” to you?
C. Does it really matter?
If I get any responses to this I will tally results and make appropriate adjustments.

As I told my little sister when she tried to AIM me with similar stuff…I don’t read that.
Its not offensive, though in my mind it does present you as an underage semi-idiot. Its a personal issue and I’m working on it, but I like the 26 letters of the alphabet I have known since I was little. People who insist that English exists out side of those ‘standard’ letters get instant idiot signs in my mind.
So it doesn’t offend me, I’m just inclined to ignore you. If that matters is up to you.

I like the _name_, but the way you spell it out is a touch … _gimmicky_. It doesn’t offend me or bother me, but does come across as trying to get attention through who you are rather than what you say. Just my thoughts, no offence meant.

It looks like **Deep Fried™** to me, but I imagine that someone on a non-visual browser would have a hard time reading it. As long as you don’t try to communicate through such symbols, I don’t see how it can be a problem. Honestly, I think that anyone who complains about your name is just being whiney. And anyone who makes assumptions about you based on it is extremely quick to assume. I hope you don’t change it. As for English not existing outside beyond the 26 letters, who says your username has to be English?

I’m with **Kevja**. I like referring to people by name, and I look forward to reading more from you, but I’m afraid I probably won’t be able to remember the exact sequence of symbols you use for your name. Trust me on this one – I once embarrasingly misspelled **Qadgop the Mercotan** ’s name. On my computer, by the way, it doesn’t appear as lines and squiggles, but I’ve also done some work in Japanese on my computer.
As to how much it matters, if you don’t mind me calling you as “Deep Fried”, your user name’s fine with me, and besides, it really isn’t my business. I do hope I get a chance to use it.

WOW! Thank you all for the input. It is thoughtful (most of it so far, anyway) and I appreciate it. I must leave work now and I will check in tomorrow.

P.S.- and for what it is worth, I am not 12 and my neice designed (or whatever you do to create fonts) it for me and my intent was not to be flashy or contrived. But, again, I appreciate the honesty.

Is “font” really the right word to use here? The question is really “Is it OK to have a name that’s almost entirely made of special characters?” Unless I’m misunderstanding something (which is entirely possible), that’s not the same thing as “font”.

However, welcome to the boards.
I appreciate the fact that you are open to a poll on the topic. Also, the tone of your last reply suggests, to me, that you will indeed be a welcome addition to these boards. So, while your username might continue to irritate me, it would not cause me to see your future posts in negative light because of it.
If you choose to retain your username, it is your right. But if this was a vote on “Should I change my username to something less jarring”, I would vote a resounding “Yes”.
One more thing: If I doublepost, would you count my vote twice ? 😉

It depends what kind of encoding I have enabled. It usually comes out as Cyrillic characters for me.

Eh, I really don’t mind it a bit. Of course, having had a teenage son that was reeeeeally into “leet speek” when we first got online, I’m became somewhat used to it pretty quickly. I got to where I could read it without even thinking about it. Your name is pretty easy, in comparison.
He’s older now, and realizes it’s “kinda soooo five years ago”. If you like it, keep it. It bugs me not. 🙂
As an aside, however, it does bring to mind someone under the age of fifteen, since the only people I’ve seen using that stuff in the last couple of years have been my daughter’s friends. She’s twelve. If you’re over fifteen, you _might_ want to reconsider. Just sayin’. And of course, welcome to our not-so-humble board!
