Is this the same as a blood workup? I have had these. Or do I need to specifically ask for a certain test?

“Workup” is just another way to say “test” (or more often, “multiple tests”), basically. You would need to make a specific request, as there are literally hundreds, maybe thousands, of things that one could conceivably test for in blood, and a zinc test is not commonly run (without a request for it) to the best of my knowledge.
You are in luck with iron, however. Iron affects your hemoglobin rating (abbreviated HGB) on a Complete Blood Count panel, which is a fairly common set of blood tests. If you’re not getting sufficient iron, this will most likely show up as a low HGB value. Thus you may well have been tested for this already.
