Does President Trump sleep in the same bedroom as President Obama did in the White House? And what about the bed? Furniture’s easy to move around, but what about fixed things like bath tub or toilet bowl?

What about previous Presidents? I know the White House interior was rebuilt in 1949-1952, so we’re probably talking about Presidents after that, and there have been other renovations since then.

I would like to remind people, for their own safety, that this thread is in General Questions, and so political jabs are not permitted.

It doesn’t directly answer your question, but the master bedroom on the 2nd floor hasn’t always been used as the presidents bedroom according to this.

So I have no idea if Trump sleeps there, but if he doesn't he wouldn't be the first one.

For reasons that I think should be obvious, the private quarters of the White House don’t get a lot of attention in the media. The [pictures I could fin](https://www.google.com/search?q=white+house+private+quarters&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjglsDcyKzhAhUNC6wKHQvHCj8Q_AUIDigB&biw=1366&bih=625)d seem to date from the Obama administration. From where I sit, the rooms seem rather small and modest – at least, compared to Trump’s tastes (and Trump may have called the house a “dump,” according to [some source](https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/345113-golf-journalist-at-least-8-people-heard-trump-call-the-white-house-a)s).

Similarly, I remember a TV special from the waning days of the Clinton administration that showed a few frames of some of the rooms in the private residence portion of the WH. The decorating style was pure 90s, but the rooms themselves didn’t seem particularly large, luxe, or grandiose. More like what you’d find in middle-class or upper-middle-class home in Little Rock or Chicago or Tulsa.

Clearly Trump spends at least some nights at the WH (when he’s not at Mar-a-Lago), so I’m guessing he sucks it up and sleeps there. Or maybe, for the lulz, he sleeps in the Lincoln Bedroom some nights, some other bedroom of some significance some other night, and so on.

As far as furniture, I understand every new president brings in their own or gets new stuff.

Also note it’s a popular misconception that Lincoln slept in the Lincoln Bedroom. If nothing else, the entire interior of the WH was removed and rebuilt with a new floor plan during the Truman Administration.

The [Wikipedia page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Residence) on the White House’s Executive Residence has lots of details and floor plans.

> [@dtilque](#):

> If nothing else, the entire interior of the WH was removed and rebuilt with a new floor plan during the Truman Administration.

The rooms of the Second Floor of the Executive Residence, containing the private living apartments of the First Family, were rebuilt largely as they had been, but provided with built-in closets and additional bathrooms. So there’s a bit of the Ship of Theseus conundrum as to whether the current rooms are the same rooms as the pre-Truman reconstruction rooms!

On the Second Floor of the Executive Residence, there are a number of bedrooms that currently serve, or have served, as bedrooms. A couple of them - the Lincoln Bedroom and the Queens’ Bedroom - are considered historic. They are currently used as guest rooms, and have never been bedrooms of Presidents.

The other rooms, in which the First Family live, are not considered historic, and may be redecorated or undergo architectural revision at the whim of the President.

The President’s traditional sleeping area - The Presidential Suite - consists of three principal rooms, all of which have served as bedrooms at one time or another. In recent years, at least from the Fords until the Obamas, these rooms have been used for the same purposes: President’s bedroom, private sitting room, and dressing room.

The bedroom - the largest room - has usually been used by the President and First Lady as their private bedroom, going all the way back from second President John Adams to President Obama. Several Presidents, however, including Lincoln, Wilson, Harding, FD Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Nixon slept in the smaller room that is now the sitting room. President Ford turned this smaller bedroom into a study and living room, and it has served this role until at least 2013.

Several Presidents and their wives have had separate bedrooms, including, in more recent years, the Kennedys, Johnsons and Nixons (and Clinton temporarily slept on a sofa in an adjacent room in 1998). Donald Trump is apparently the latest to do so, as he and his wife [reportedly](https://people.com/politics/melania-donald-trump-separate-bedrooms-historical-perspective/) sleep in separate rooms at the White House, although its not known which rooms these are.

So, in conclusion, we know that President Obama, and his wife, slept in the large President’s bedroom, but we will probably have to wait until some future Administration to find out the exact sleeping arrangements of the current occupant of the White House.

So I had to google a bit on this subject. Apparently, while the entire White House interior was gutted during the Truman administration, the Lincoln bedroom _does_ have Lincoln’s original bed and some other furniture. With restoration, so presumably the mattress is not from Lincoln’s era.

I mean to be fair, if you’re the President, having sex on the same bed that Lincoln enjoyed and that Kennedy made out with Marilyn Monroe on…you’ve gotta do it. Refusing would be like being on a private jet with models who are willing to have sex with you and not joining the mile high club.

Looking at the floor plan, I’m wondering where the Obama girls would have slept, and also Michele’s mother, who lived in and looked after the girls. Seems like the Lincoln and/or the Queen’s bedroom would be in use.

Also, I didn’t realize how close the Lincoln Bedroom is to the president’s suite (because I didn’t quite grasp how small the White House is). How often have drunken boorish donors pounded on the president’s door?

Did Kennedy make out with Marilyn Monroe on the Lincoln Bed?

It’s also the bed that Lincoln’s son Willie died in, and the room is [haunted by Abe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln%27s_ghost), so maybe is not the best place for sexy time.

The attic of the White House was rebuilt into a third floor in 1927, and expanded with the Truman Reconstruction. Some Presidential family members have lived up there, including Michelle Obama’s mother and, currently, Barron Trump.

Apparently not. I thought that this was a rumor but other sources have them hooking up just once off campus.

Bummer. Given what happened later, it’s a shame JFK didn’t get to check that item off his bucket list…

Googling a bit further, though, it appears the Lincoln bedroom _was_ Kennedy’s favorite shag pad. Supposedly he had sex in there with one mistress or another at least once a day. Also that at least some of the mistresses were supplied by the mob.

So if Trump bangs a Russian honeypot agent in there, it would be well in keeping with tradition…

Which floor were you looking at? My understanding is the 2nd floor is the official residence area and has about 5 bedrooms, but the other floors have bedrooms too. The third floor has another 6 bedrooms. I don’t know if the kids just pick their bedrooms or if they are assigned.

Sorry, Wiki doesn’t have a floor plan for the attic/now residence floor. Thanks for filling me in.
